Field Hockey Qualification Closed

 

The qualification for Field Hockey for Paris Olympics 2024 is already closed and twenty-four teams who qualified from various qualification events are determined.

From Asia, India will compete in the Men's Division while China and Japan are qualified in the women's division.

Malaysia who competed in the last qualifying events in Valencia, Spain and in Muscat, Oman failed to make it to the Paris Olympics.

Below are the qualified teams in Field Hockey to the Paris Olympics.

MEN: France, Australia, Netherlands, India, Argentina, South Africa, Belgium, Spain, Germany & Great Britain.

WOMEN: MEN: France, Australia, Netherlands, China, Argentina, South Africa, United States, Japan, Germany, Belgium, Spain & Great Britain.

 

 

Boxing Categories in Paris Olympics 2024

 

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the weight categories for the boxing competitions for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

 

A Total of 248 boxers will be qualified for the 2024 quadrennial event, with equal allocations of 124 boxers each for men and women. This highlights the emphasis on gender equality by the Olympic body.

 

In Tokyo, there were 286 boxers and only 100 women (there were only 36 females in Rio).

 

In Paris, women’s boxing will feature 6 weight categories (as opposed to 5 in Tokyo and 3 in Rio de Janeiro in 2016). The men will compete in 7 weight classes (there were 10 in Tokyo).

 

The 7 categories for men are: 51kg, 57kg, 63.5 kg, 71 kg, 80 kg, 92kg and 92+kg.

 

The women will be in these weight classes: 50kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 66kg & 75kg.

 

Four qualifying events are contemplated. These will start in January 2023 to culminate in May 2024.

 

The Paris Olympics will be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

 

The full Events calendar of the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments and the rules of the Olympic Ranking System will be published before January 2023.

Boxing Olympic Qualifiers Cancelled

 

International Olympic Committee Boxing Task Force (BTF) decided to cancel the Paris World Qualifiers and base the qualification through rankings instead. The event was scrapped due to safety concerns and time constraints with the rescheduled Summer Games just five months away.

Esports has been named as a full medal event for the 2022 Asian Games, a major step towards the mainstream for a sport that has long harbored Olympic ambitions.

 

Eports and breakdancing were both included on the program for the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, at the Olympic Council of Asia’s general assembly in Muscat this week.

 

Also, breakdancing, skateboarding, surfing and sport climbing were approved for the Paris 2024 Olympics, as the Games strive to appeal to younger audiences.

1928 Summer Olympics

The 1928 Summer Olympics was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from July 28 to August 12 with 46 participating countries competing in 109 events in 14 sports. 

The Philippines was the sole nation from Southeast Asian that competed at this edition of the Summer Olympics and its second appearance in Summer Olympics. The country sent four athletes in two sports:

1. Teófilo Yldefonso in swimming (men's 200m breaststroke)
2. Tuburan Tamse in swimming (men's 400m and 1500m freestyle) *
3. Anselmo Gonzaga in Athletics (100m & 200m)
4. Simeon Toribio in Athletics (High Jump | 4th Place | 1.91m)

Teófilo Yldefonso

The Philippines won its first Olympic medal courtesy of Teófilo Yldefonso in Swimming. Yldefonso finished third place with a time of 2:56.4 in the men's 200m breaststroke event. Enough for him to win the country's first bronze and Olympic medal.

It is also the historic first medal for Southeast Asia.

* Tuburan Kontong Tamse was the first Muslim Filipino Olympian and first Muslim athlete from Southeast Asia in Summer Olympics.
