31st (FISU) Winter World University Games - Figure Skating Women

Two Southeast Asian figure skaters participated at the 31st FISU World University Games Winter. These are Teekhree Silpa-archa of Thailand and Mikayla Shalom Fabian of the Philippines. Both did not advance for the free skating round. Only the top 24 skaters advanced in that round.

Silpa-archa placed 32nd with a total score of 20.24 while Fabian came last among the 34 competitors in the women's singles figure skating with total points of 15.80.

 

 

SEA Figure Skaters Won Medals at the Asian Trophy

 

The 2022 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy was held at the Oasis Centre Arena GC in Jakarta, Indonesia from December 7 to 10. 

 

Nine Southeast Asian figure skaters successfully made it to the podium and two of them won the gold medal in their respective events.

 

Below are the winners from Southeast Asian with Thailand winning five medals and the Philippines winning the gold medal courtesy of Sofia Frank in the senior division.

SEA Games 2019 News 082: Icy Feud Affects Malaysian Skaters

Malaysian ice skating team selection is suffering an icy war between two skating organizations - the Malaysia Ice Skating Federation (MISF) and the Ice Skating Association of Malaysia (ISAM).

Most affected of the feud are the national ice skaters whose training program has been marred.

It was also reported that some ice skaters were frozen out of the national squad and have no chance to defend their gold in the the 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held in the Philippines.

At the 2017 SEA Games, Malaysia won four gold medals in the short track speed skating with Anja Chong collecting three form the four gold medals.

Aside from Chong, Julian Yee also took gold medal in the men's figure skating event.

SEA Games 2019 News 058: Indonesian Ice Skating Team Targets 2 Gold Medals

The Indonesian Ice Skating federation will send 14 athletes comprising of four figure skaters and ten short track speed skaters at the coming 30th Southeast Asian Games.

The federation also set a target of two gold medals and 1 silver medal at the biennial meet that will commence on November 30.

Part of their preparations is to send 24 athletes to undergo a training camp in South Korea this coming July and another training camp in Russia.

From there they will have friendly competitions before the federation selects the 10 speed skaters that will represent team Indonesia.

At the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia won 1 silver and 1 bronze medals in short speed skating. Malaysia and Thailand dominated this event.

Meanwhile in figure skating, host Philippines and rivals Malaysia and Singapore are the teams to watch out for. 

The Southeast Asian Games 2019 will be held in the Philippines which features 56 sports.
