SEA Games 2019 News 073: Philippines Continues Its Kickboxing Preparation


Kickboxing which will debut at the 30th Southeast Asian Games will be competed at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City, Philippines.

The Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas (SKP) will form a 16-member pool for the upcoming biennial meet from series of regional tournaments that will happen in the coming weeks.

Once the national team members are identified, the federation will send them to competitions abroad and a two-week training camp in preparation for SEA Games.
Last year, areas which caters best kickboxing centers are identified such as Baguio City, Manila, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.  
Kickboxing offers 8 gold medals wherein 6 are for men's event while the remaining two are for the women's event.

From the eight events, the federation is aiming to sweep all the events but it will be a hard-earn medal as Thailand and Vietnam are also looking good at this sport.

The 2019 SEA Games will open on November 30 and will close on December 11.

SEA Games 2019 News 039: Singapore Held its Team Selection for Kickboxing

Singapore has expressed its preparedness to the coming 30th Southeast Asian Games.

The Kickboxing Federation of Singapore held the Singapore Kickboxing Championships 2019 last 22nd to 24th of March at Marina Bay Sands, Hall E, Basement 2.

The federation used an open electronic scoring system to ensure fairness and openness in scoring the competition. It was provided by WAKO Asia who also provided the technical support of the tournament.

Aside from technical support system, the championships also had its standby medical team to ensure the safety of all athletes.

The successful kickboxing championships served as team selection for Singapore to the upcoming SEA Games 2019 to be held in the Philippines.

At the end of the event, Hilltop Academy was declared the overall club champion.

Kickboxing will be one of the sports calendared at this year's SEA Games. It is also the first time for kickboxing to be included in SEA Games as a medal sport event.

The eight kickboxing events are the men’s -51kg and -57kg full contact, -54kg, -60kg and -63.5kg low kick and -67kg kick light, women’s -48kg full contact and -52kg kick light.
 
At the 2017 SEA Games overall medal tally, Team Singapore was just 1 gold medal behind 3rd placer Vietnam. So expect Singapore to make some rally against sports powerhouses in Southeast Asia including host Philippines.


SEA Games 2019 News 006: Kickboxing debuts in 2019 SEA Games


Kickboxing will also debut at the upcoming  2019 SEA Games, officially known as the 30th Southeast Asian Games and commonly is a regional multi-sport event that will take place in the Philippines in November and December 2019.
This sport will be among the 56 sports approved to be contested by the 11-nation sportsfest.
The eight kickboxing events in the 30th SEA Games are the men’s -51kg and -57kg full contact, -54kg, -60kg and -63.5kg low kick and -67kg kick light, women’s -48kg full contact and -52kg kick light.

Thailand is expected to dominate the event as well as the host country, the Philippines at the biennial meet.
