Indonesia Dominated the Asian Dragon Boat Championships 2022

The 14th Asian Dragon Boat Championships 2022 was held in Rayong-Pattaya Royal Navy Rowing Training Center in Thailand. The event which features 15 events was scheduled from November 19 to 21. 

Indonesia dominated the event capturing 11 gold medals while host Thailand won 1 gold medal. The remaining three gold medals were won by China. 

Aside from Indonesia and Thailand, other Southeast Asian countries who took part of the Asian championships were Cambodia, Myanmar and Singapore.

SEA Games 2019 News 020: Indonesia Targets 9 Gold Medals in Canoe-Kayak events


A total of 18 gold medals will be given in rowing, canoe, kayak, and dragon boat sports at the 30th Southeast Asian Games this coming November in the Philippines.

And setting to snatch half of this number of gold medals is the red and white flag, Indonesia.

The Indonesian Rowing Association (PODSI) set a target to bag nine gold medals or 50 percent of total medals and they are optimistic of achieving it.

Indonesia had a good performance at the recent Asian Games held in their own yard collecting 10 medals including a gold medal.

With Asian level of performance, Indonesia is not only aiming for the best for their athletes but also to qualify in 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 

Some junior rowers are expected to be fielded at the SEA Games 2019 in the Philippines.

Subic will be the venue of most outdoor water sports this coming biennial meet.



ICF World Dragon Boat Championships 2018

The Philippines was the only country from Southeast Asia who took part of the ICF World Dragon Boat Championships 2018 held at Lake Lanier in Gainesville in Georgia, USA from September 13 to 16.

The Philippines quickly snatched two gold medals in record-setting fashion during the opener of the prestigious 2018 ICF World Dragon Boat Championships.

  • Gold Medal | 10-seater senior mixed 200-meter | 50.46
  • Gold Medal | 20-seater senior mixed 200-meter | 43.481
  • Gold Medal | 10-seater senior mixed 500-meter | 2:07.50
  • Gold Medal | 20-seater senior mixed 500-meter | 1:52.58
  • Gold Medal | 10-seater senior men's 200-meter | 47.399
  • Silver Medal | 10-seater senior men's 500-meter | 2:06.18
  • Silver Medal | 20-seater senior mixed 2000-meter | 8:43.98
The Philippine Dragon Boat Team claims five gold medals and the overall title in the 2018 ICF World Dragon Boat Championships.
In the master division, the Philippines pocketed a pair of bronze medals in the small boat men’s and mixed 200m races.

🚣‍ 1st Surigao International Dragonboat Summer Festival 2018

The 1st Surigao International Dragonboat Summer Festival 2018 was held at the Surigao City Boulevard last May 25 to May 27. 

Twenty-six dragonboat teams from Malaysia, Canada, China, Hongkong and host Philippines competed at the said event.
Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to the winning teams which was dominated by teams from the host and teams from China.

🚣‍ 5th Asian Dragon Boat Championships 2018

The Asian Dragon Boat Championships 2018 was held at the Bi-tan , Xindian District, New Taipei City.  Taiwan last May 7 and 8.

Southeast Asian teams who competed at this regional championships were Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
Other teams came from Japan, Macau, India, Hong Kong and host Chinese Taipei.
Myanmar collected 3 gold medals to top the medal tally followed by Thailand and Indonesia respectively.
