SEA Games 2019 News 033: Korean Coach Guides PH Soft Netters

Philippines soft tennis team had their two-week training under the supervision of Korean coach.

The half-month training is in preparation of the players for the upcoming SEA Games 2019 in their home turf.

The training centered more on adjustments and techniques of the sport especially the strokes.

The Filipino soft tennis players were joined by Korean soft tennis athletes from Busan to further coped with the new techniques.

Aside from the two-week training, local and international exposures are planned for the Filipino soft netters as they bid to medal in the biennial meet.

Meanwhile, their Korean coach will stay with the team for about four months according to a report. 

Soft tennis was first featured as medal sport at the 2011 SEA Games in Palembang, Indonesia and Indonesia swept all the seven gold medals at that time.

This year, it will be back again for the second time at the 30th Southeast Asian Games and this is very challenging for the part of the host to stop the Indonesian domination plus its Thai counterparts.

SEA Games 2019 News 027: Cambodia Prepares Soft Tennis Athletes for Tourneys

Cambodia is looking forward to send athletes in soft tennis for the 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held in the Philippines.

But before the biennial meet kick off on November 30, around seven athletes will be sent to train in Japan for six months.

Japan is one of the best countries that produces best and strong athletes for soft tennis. Japan was also the training ground of Cambodian athletes last June.

Cambodian Soft Tennis Federation funded the accommodation, food, travel and training costs of the mentioned training.

An official of the federation said that foreign training is necessary to hone the skills of the Cambodian athletes and is optimistic that their athletes will improve before the SEA Games.

Aside from SEA Games, Cambodia plans to host and participate in regional and international soft tennis tournaments.

The competitions that Cambodia will join are Asian Championships and the University Championships both to be hosted by the Philippines and World Championships in China.

Cambodia will also host the Southeast Asian Championships in August with seven countries confirmed to participate.

Last Asian Games in Indonesia, Cambodia sent seven athletes. These were Samsocheaphearun Doeum, Chamroeun Ek, Sophorn Kann, Sambath Orn and Sarsarith Yi in men's events and Mariyan Meth together with Sotheary Rin in the women's events.

Soft tennis is one of the 56 sports to be contested at the Southeast Asian Games 2019.

 

🎾 4th Agel World Tour Soft Tennis Tournament 2018

The 4th Agel World Tour Soft Tennis Tournament 2018 was held at the Greta Resort & Sports Club in Pattaya, Thailand from June 7 to 11.

Indonesia managed to collect 5 gold medals, 3 silvers and 5 bronze medals. 

Indonesian gold medalists were Elbert Sie in men's singles, Prima Simpatiaji & Irfandy Heendrawan in men's doubles, Elbert Sie & Dwi Rahayu Pitri in mixed doubles, Anna Kawengian in junior singles and the boys team.

The silver medalists were Prima Simpatiaji in men's singles, Voni Darlina in women's singles and the women's team. 

Bronze medalists were Irfandy Hendrawan in men's singles, Hemat Bhakti Anugrah & Gusti Jayakusuma in men's doubles, Dwi Rahayu Pitri & Voni Darlina in women's doubles, Irfandy Hendrawan & Dede Tari Kusrini in mixed doubles and Anna Lontoh in women's singles U21.

Philippines also felt its presence in the tournament after soft neters Bien Zoleta-Manalac and Princess Catindig won a gold and a bronze medal respectively while Cambodian athletes brought home seven medals.
