Wushu at the 20th ASEAN University Games (AUG) 2022

Wushu is one of the 23 sports featured at the 20th ASEAN University Games being held in Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand. Wushu competition commenced on August 3 at the Sunee Tower.

#SEAGames2021 News 060 | Vietnam Relying on Experienced Wushu Athletes

Wushu is one of the forty (40) sports that will be featured in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.

Host Vietnam has sixteen (16) wushu athletes that will take part of the SEA Games competition to be held at Cầu Giấy Sporting Hall in Hanoi.

The team is composed of seven (7) male and nine (9) female wushu athletes.

Vietnam will rely on experienced wushu athletes. Most notable among the sixteen are Duong Thuy Vi and Pham Quoc Khanh.

Vietnamese male and female players for the sanda events had training sessions in the central Da Nang City, which are preparing for their SEA Games action at the Cau Giay Gymnasium in Hanoi.

The wushu competition will commence on May 13 and will close on May 15 with 21 events including 8 in sanda and 13 events in taolu.

Vietnam collected twelve (12) medals at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines which includes the 3 gold medals - one in taolu and two in sanda events.

#SEAGames2021 News 059 | 11 Wushu Athletes To Represent Philippines

The Philippines will send 11 athletes for wushu in the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.

At the 2019 SEA Games, the Philippines dominated the sport with 7 gold medals. And for this year's SEA Games in Hanoi, the team is poised to continue its supremacy as it maintains most of its exponents from the last SEA Games.

#SEAGames2021 News 058 | Indonesia has 16 Athletes for SEA Games Wushu

Of the 21 wushu events in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam, Indonesia targets three gold medals in the said sport. It is one more than the gold medals it won in the 2019 SEA Games in Manila.

To make this happen, Indonesia will depend on the sixteen (16) wushu athletes that will compete in this Southeast Asian regional meet.

#SEAGames2021 News 040 | Malaysian Wushu Athletes for SEA Games

Malaysia will send 11 wushu athletes in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Malaysian wushu players did not have any international exposure before coming to the SEA Games this May. Only local and online competitions are the only ways to prepare them for the SEA Games.

No medal target is being projected for team Malaysia as this (SEA Games) is their first international competition due to the pandemic.

Below are the list of SEA Games athletes that will compete in the biennial games.

Category A: Clement Ting Su Wei; Yeap Wai Kin (both Men’s Changquan & Daoshu + Gunshu); Tan Zhi Yan (Men’s Taijiaquan & Taijijian); Sydney Chin Sy Xuan (Women’s Taijiquan & Taijijian); and Kelvin Teng Kai Wen (Men's Sanda 56kg).

Category B: Calvin Lee Wai Leong (Men’s Nanquan, Nandao & Nangun); Mandy Cebelle Chen (Women’s Taijiquan & Taijijian); Pang Pui Yee (Women's Changquan; Jianshu & Qiangshu); Lee Jia Rong (Women's Changquan & Daoshu + Gunshu); Chong Jian Hwa (Men's Sanda 65kg); and Vicky Hwa Chang (Men's Sanda 70kg).

SEA Games 2019 News 052: Indonesia Prepares their Wushu Athletes

Indonesian wushu athletes are now training for the 30th Southeast Asian Games this coming November to be held in the Philippines.

Around twenty-five athletes started practicing last March at the national training camp at the Senayan Multipurpose Building in Jakarta.

At the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia won three gold medals, all from taolu women's events. And they have to maintain this good performance at the coming SEA Games.

Indonesia is looking for the best athletes to represent the country since their multi-medalist Lindswell Kwok has already retired from the national team.

Indonesia excels in wushu especially in taolu events where Lindswell collected gold medals back from 2011 SEA Games until her last SEA Games in 2017. She also won gold medals at the world championships.

Indonesia is not only preparing their wushu athletes for SEA Games 2019 but also preparing them for world championships in October.

2nd Taolu World Cup (Wushu) 2018

The 2nd Taolu World Cup Wushu 2018 was held at Thuwuna National indoor stadium, Yangon, Myanmar from November 17 to 18.

Malaysia won 4 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals. The 2 gold medals were won by Wong Weng Son in men’s jianshu and men’s qiangshu (spear) events.

The other two golds were won by Phoon Eyin in the jianshu and qiangshu events.

Malaysia's Tan Cheong Min also did well by winning a silver in the women’s nanquan (barehands) event and a bronze in the nandao (broadsword) event.

Meanwhile, the Philippines won 1 silver medal courtesy of Thornton Quiney Lou Sayan.

Host Myanmar also won medals including a gold medal care of Nyein Chan Ko Ko with 9.67 points in men’s Taijijian.

It is second medal for Nyein Chan Ko Ko. He already won bronze medal on the first day of the competition with 9.66 points in Men’s Taijiquan.

Myanmar's Aye Thitsar Myint won silver medal with 9.64 points in women’s Nandao and she also won bronze medal with 9.18 points in women’s Nangun.

The other silver medal for Myanmar was brought home by Sandi Oo in qiangshu event.

Myanmar secured 1 gold, 2 silvers and 2 bronze medals.

Indonesia also bagged a bronze medal courtesy of Indonesian Muhd Daffa Golden Boy in the men’s qiangshu.

A total of 88 wushu athletes from 22 countries competed in 11 men’s events and 11 women’s events, including Taijiquan, Taijijian, Jianshu, Qiangshu, Nandao and Nangun.

The third Taolu World Cup (Wushu) is scheduled in Japan in 2020.

Philippines ranked 5th at the recently concluded Sanda World Cup. Iran topped the medal tally followed by host China.

FISU World University Wushu Championship 2018

The FISU World University Wushu Championship 2018 was held in Macau from August 2 to 5 with five Southeast Asian countries in contention.

Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines & Singapore were among the countries that participated in the tournament.

🥋 1st Sanda Asian Cup 2017

The 1st Sanda Asian Cupwas held at Guangzhou, China from December 15 to December 16.

The two-day competition attracted martial artists from around Asia competing in 11weight categories for men and six divisions for women.

The Philippines and Vietnam are the big winners from Southeast Asia.

The gold medalists were awarded 1,500 USD each.

9th Asian Junior Wushu Championships 2017

The 9th Asian Junior Wushu Championships 2017 was successfully held in Gumi City, South Korea that drew more than 300 athletes from some 30 countries.

Our Southeast Asian wushu competitors made an impressive impact collecting medals at the tournament.

14th World Wushu Championships 2017

The World Wushu Championships was successfully held at the Gymnastics Palace in Kazan City, Russia which was participated by more than 50 countries around the world. The 14th edition of this championships was slated from September 28 to October 3.

Powerhouse China bagged the overall title with 15 golds followed by Iran (8-1-2), Hong Kong (5-3-3), host Russia (3-2-2), South Korea (2-9-2), Vietnam (2-4-2), Malaysia (2-3-3), Macau (1-3-3) and Japan (1-2-5).
