Medal Unveilled for the 33rd SEA Games

The organizers of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games has revealed the medals to be given to the winners at the games.

The medal concept combines sports with Thai arts, showing a distinctive and harmonious Thai identity under the concept of "PLAY BY THE RULES".

Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, stated that the medals are beautiful, strong, durable, and are a source of pride for athletes.

According to the report, the medal are made from strong materials, resistant to impact, plated in gold, silver, nickel, and do not peel off with diameter of 8.5 centimeters and with thickness of 0.8 centimeters.

The front is the logo of the 2025 SEA Games, while the back is the logo of the SEA Games Federation with the competition text. The background of the medal is a Thai weaving pattern, symbolizes the cooperation, unity and continuity of athletes from all ASEAN countries and conveys the power of sports in connecting people, culture and Thai pride.

Sports in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games

Here are the sports to be contested in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. 50 medal-sports plus 3 demonstration sports.

Aquatics will feature swimming, diving, artistic swimming, water polo and open water swimming. Meanwhile, dragon boat race is under the canoe and rowing category.

Under extreme sports, sport climbing, waterski & wakeboard, skateboading and jet ski events will be contested at the biennial meet.

Meanwhile, the three demonstration sports are Air Sports, Flying Disc and Tug of War.

Cambodia Denies Downsizing its Delegation to SEA Games 2025

In contrast to previous report about the downsizing of Cambodian delegation to the 2025 SEA Games, Vath Chamroeun, secretary-general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), has dismissed a misleading report by a Thai media outlet Khaosod English.

In a report by media outlet The Phnom Penh Post dated August 5, Chamroeun stated that the NOCC was unaware of any such numbers. He emphasized that Cambodia’s participation in the SEA Games — or lack thereof — would depend on the real-time development of the ongoing border dispute and would ultimately require a decision from the Royal Government of Cambodia.

“We are unaware of this matter. This is not official. We have not considered anything other than continuing our training efforts. Everything depends on the situation, and we must wait for a final decision from the Royal Government. There’s still a long time to go,” he told the Cambodian media.

Cambodia will only send 57 athletes to compete in the SEA Games in Thailand, instead of the initial 1,500 athletes.

The Thai Olympic Committee had a meeting on Monday (August 4) regarding the 33rd Southeast Asian Games. According to report, Thailand will send 2,134 athletes and 652 officials to compete in 50 sports and 574 events.

Meanwhile, Malaysia will send 1,824 athletes, Vietnam with 863, Singapore with 1,973, and Myanmar with 749.

Meanwhile, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei and Timor-Leste including Cambodia have requested a two-week extension and are expected to submit their final numbers by September 1.

SEA Games 2025 To Cater Around 12,000 Athletes

A total of 12,506 athletes are expected to see action in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games with host Thailand sending the largest delegation with 1,807 athletes, while Cambodia is sending 1,515 athletes, surprisingly.

These numbers are collected after the deadline of "Entry Form by Number" set by the SEA Games organizers. In addition, a total of 6,253 officials from the 11 countries will participate at the biennial meet.

Meanwhile, the “Entry Form by Name”, or Country’s list of athletes, must be submitted by September 1, while the draw for team sports will be held between October 18–19.

The 33rd SEA Games will be hosted by Thailand from December 9-20, with competitions taking place in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla Provinces.

Indonesia Prepares for Two Big Tournaments

The Indonesia women’s basketball team had won all its three matches against Team Singapore which took place on February 27, 28, and March 1 at the Cita Hati School East Surabaya.

The Indonesian team is currently undergoing a training camp in preparation for two big tournaments. The team is set to compete in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup - Division A this July and in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand this December.

Indonesia took home the gold medal in the women’s basketball at the 2023 SEA Games held in Cambodia.

Malaysia Named 3 Skateboaders for SEA Games 2025

Malaysia will be represented by 3 athlete from Sarawak in the sport of skateboarding at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. These are Mohd Raqeeb Azizan and two brothers Mohd Nur Firdaus Marzuki and Zainul Mutaqien Marzuki.

The 3 athlete were selected following their performances at the Malaysia Action Sports Championships last February.

Azizan captured the junior men’s event title while Nur Firdaus topped the men’s open category followed by Zainul in 2nd place.

Vietnam To Send MMA Fighters for 2025 SEA Games

Vietnam will send its MMA fighters for the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. Vietnam’s Mixed Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) has announced selection tournaments that will be conducted.

The first one is MMA Championship 2025 which will kick off on April 12, while the National MMA Club Cup 2025 is set to take place from June 23 to June 29 in Hanoi.

The results from these tournaments will determine Vietnam’s MMA representatives for SEA Games 2025. There was no mention of the specific sport where their MMA fighters will contest.

Nayaka Budhidarma of Indonesia is set to represent the country in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this coming December. Nayaka recently won in the rapid chess tournament open category at the Ramadhan Cup 2025 held at Wisma Kemenpora, Senayan, Central Jakarta.

Nayaka accumulated a score of 8.5 points, defeating Dzithauly Ramadhan and IM Gilbert Elroy. He also successfully defeated GM Susanto Megaranto in the eighth round.

The event was participated by 452 chess wizards from 22 provinces of Indonesia.

Some Sports Are Axed in the Preliminary List for SEA Games 2025

Thailand is hosting the SEA Games 2025 from December 9 to 20 in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla. But some sports are cut off in the preliminary list to be featured in the games such as wushu, jiu-jitsu and karate and weightlifting.

Meanwhile, here are the preliminary list of sports calendared for SEA Games 2025.

▪️Group 1 (Mandatory): Athletics and Aquatics (swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, marathon swimming)

▪️Group 2 (Olympic sports and Asian Games):

+ Olympic: archery, badminton, basketball (5x5, 3x3), canoeing, rowing, cycling, fencing, football (men, women), golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, ice hockey, judo, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, wrestling, ice skating, modern pentathlon, baseball (men) - softball (women), boxing, polo and sailing.

+ Asian Games: futsal, muay, pencak silat, billiards & snookers and e-sports

▪️Group 3 (maximum 4 sports with 8 sets of medals): floorball, kickboxing, teqball, netball, tournament rules other than basketball)

▪️Demonstration sports: tug of war, frisbee (flying disc)

Thailand Suspends Two Players & Staffs after SEA Games Football Brawl

SEA Games Football Brawl: Indonesia and Thailand

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has suspended their two players and three coaching staffs after an involvement in brawls during the football finals against Indonesia at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia last week.

A year of suspension from Thai football teams is imposed to goalkeeping coach Prasadchok Chokmoh, assistant coach Phatrawut Wongsripuek, and coaching staffer Mayid Madada. The three were suspended for violating FAT regulations and the code of ethics and standards in sports.

As for the two players who were involved in chaotic brawl, they will not be allowed to play for Thai teams at any level for six months. These players are goalkeeper Sohonwit Rakyath and substitute Teerapak Pruengna.

Two massive brawls outbursted during the men's football finals where Indonesia prevailed over Thailand 5-2 after extra time in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

32nd SEA Games Concluded in Cambodia

The 32nd Southeast Asian Games successfully concluded last May 17 with the parade of participating athletes, volunteers and organizers of biennial meet at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Cambodia.

Vietnam is hailed the overall champion of the games among the eleven participating Southeast Asian nations clinching 359 medals that includes 136 gold medals. Completing the top three best performing nations are Thailand with 108 golds and Indonesia with 87 gold medals.

Host Cambodia secured 4th place finish at the end of the competition with 81 gold medals. This is Cambodia's highest gold medal raked at the Southeast Asian Games.

At the closing ceremony, cultural presentations of songs and dances were delivered by the local artists and performers despite the uncontrolled rain.

Also in the ceremony, swimmer Quah Ting Wen of Singapore and Cambodia's Pal Choraksmey from Vovinam team are selected as Best Athletes of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.

One of the highlights of the night was the handover of the Southeast Asian Games Federation flag from 2023 Cambodia organizers to the host of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games which is Thailand.

#SEAGames2025 will be hosted by three cities - Bangkok, Chonburi & Songkhla from the 9th to 20th December 2025.

Following the flag handover as an acceptance was the cultural dances of Thailand that shows the vibes of the next SEA Games as a pre-welcome short presentation for the 33rd edition.

The closing ceremony ended with colorful fireworks, a celebration of great pride and joy for the people of Cambodia, ending their 64 years of waiting to host the biggest multi-sporting event of the region.
