Team Philippines 🇵🇭 | Carlos Edriel Yulo

You're not a gymnastic fan if you don't know him. He is Caloy Yulo. The first Filipino and the first male Southeast Asian gymnast to medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in floor exercise (bronze medal) in 2018, and the first-ever gold medalist for the same apparatus in 2019.

Yulo is the most decorated male gymnast from Southeast Asia today winning gold medals at the Asian Championships and in the Southeast Asian Games. He also won medals at the World Championships and at the FIG World Cup series.

Yulo who fell short of a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics aims to better his results this time at the Paris Olympics. Can he make it to the podium?

The Men's Artistic Gymnastics qualification round is scheduled on July 27 with Yulo grouped in Subdivision 2 that will start around 11:30 pm (GMT+8).

 

Team Philippines 🇵🇭 | Emma Malabuyo

 

The 21-year old Malabuyo started representing the Philippines in gymnastics in 2023. She qualified for 2024 Paris Summer Olympics through the 2024 Asian Women's Artistic Gymnastics in Tashkent, Uzbekistan where she placed 3rd in the Individual All-Around event.

The California born gymnast was part of the United States' gold-winning junior team at the 2016 L'International Gymnix tournament, where she earned the bronze medal in the all-around competition, as well as two gold medals on balance beam and floor exercise

 

Representing the Philippines, her achievements include the gold medal in the floor exercise in the Asian Artistic Gymnastics 2024, silver medal (FX) in 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup held in Cairo and another silver medal in the 2023 Asian Championships in Singapore in the same apparatus.

Emma will compete alongside Levi Ruivivar and Aleah Finnegan for Team Philippines in artistic gymnastics. 

 

The Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) qualification round (Subdivision 3) in Paris Olympics is scheduled on July 28 in the evening around  8:50pm (GMT+8).

Team Philippines 🇵🇭 | Levi Ruivivar

 

The 18-year old Ruivivar is a Filipino-American artistic gymnast who qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics through the 2024 FIG World Cup series.

Born and raised in the United States, the young gymnast represented the United States in her junior stint until in 2023 when she decided to switch federations to banner the Philippine flag instead.

 

Ruivivar had earned many achievements from her US stint. Representing the Philippines, she won a silver medal for uneven bars in the FIG World Cup and a bronze medal in the Asian Championships for the same apparatus.

 

The Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) qualification round (Subdivision 3) in Paris Olympics is scheduled on July 28 in the evening around  8:50pm (GMT+8).

Carlos Yulo Won Medals at Worlds

 

The reigning Southeast Asian Games men's artistic gymnastics all-around champion Carlos Edriel Yulo of the Philippines won two medals at the 51st World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The event was held in Liverpool, United Kingdom from October 29 to November 6.

 

Yulo qualified in 3 apparatus finals and in the individual all-around finals. In the individual all-around event, he finished in 8th overall with accumulated score of 82.098 while he also missed the podium in the floor exercise where he scored 13.300 to end up in 7th place.

But on the last day of the competition, Yulo bounced back with silver medal in the men's vault where he got an average score of 14.950 behind Artur Davtyan of Armenia who won the gold medal with 15.050 points. 

 

At the same night, Yulo won the bronze medal in the parallel bars with 15.366 points. China's Zou Jingyuan got the gold medal while Lukas Dauser of Germany settled for silver medal.

Yulo is the only Southeast Asian gymnast who won medals at this year's world championships. In the 2021 world artistic gymnastics championships in Kitakyushu, Japan , he managed to win gold medal in men's vault and silver medal in parallel bars. 

Yulo has won medals in his four consecutive world championships appearances beginning in 2018 and has pocketed a total of six (2-gold; 2-silver; 2-bronze) medals.

Carlos Yulo displayed a superb performance in the recently concluded 9th Asian Senior Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Doha, Qatar. 

 

Yulo bagged four medals including the three gold medals in men's vault, floor exercise and in parallel bars.

 

But it was in the men's individual all-around event that Yulo won his first medal and it is the first ever medal of the Philippines in the Asian artistic gymnastics championships. Yulo took home the silver medal after scoring a total of 83.767 points from the six apparatus/es.

Following his silver performance, Yulo won the gold medal in his pet event on the third day of action. Yulo scored 14.933 in the men's floor exercise to clinch Philippines' first ever gold medal in the Asian championships. However, Yulo missed to win medal in the rings event but still got high score of 14.000 to finish 4th in the finals.

On the last day of the competition, unstoppable Yulo took the gold medal in the men's vault with 14.884 and another gold medal in parallel bars with a very high score of 15.167 outclassing the other seven finalists including the Chinese gymnasts. 

With a high caliber performance in the Asian championships, Yulo wrote another historic event for Philippine gymnastics as the first gymnast to win medal, the first gymnast to win gold medal and the first gymnast to win multiple gold medals in the Asian championships.

Yulo is set to compete in the world championships to be held in Liverpool, England as his next step in reaching his another Olympic stint and to win Philippines' first Olympic medal(s) in gymnastics.

A strong Philippine gymnastics team will be fielded in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam this coming month of May.

Tokyo Olympian and 2019 World champion gymnast Carlo Yulo will lead the men's artistic team. Joining Yulo are Jan Gwynn Timbang, Justine Ace De Leon, Juancho Miguel Besana, John Ivan Cruz and John Matthew Vergara. This SEA Games edition, men's team event will be contested in Hanoi.

 

For the women's artcistic gymnastics (WAG), the team is composed of Aleah Finnegan, Chiara Andrews, Ancilla Lucia Mari Manzano, Lucia Gabriel Gutierrez, Kursten Rogue Lopez and Christina Onofre Loberanes. 

 

For rhythmic gymnastics, 2019 SEA Games gold medalist Daniela de la Pisa will lead the cast together with Reanna Labadan, Shieldannah Sabio, Katrina Loretizo, Andrea Mae Emperado, Divina Sembrano, AJ Melgar, Jenny Marie Eusebio and Angelika Leigh Buenavidez.

 

Meanwhile, the lineup in aerobics include Charmaine Dolar, Lynette Ann Moreno, Queenie Grace Briones, Dorothy Grace Asuncion, Christopher Daniel Quevado, Carl Joshua Tangonan and Enrico Ostia.

  

There are 21 events in gymnastics and it will be held at Quần Ngựa Sports Palace in Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.

#SEAGames2021 News 032 | Malaysian Gymnastics Team Revealed

 

 

Malaysia is the top performing team during the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines with 9 gold medals from the rhythmic and artistic events.

And for the 31st SEA Games that will be held in Vietnam this month of May, Persekutuan Gimnastik Malaysia or the Malaysian Gymnastics Federation has named 19 athletes who will compete for Team Malaysia.

In the men’s artistic team, 2019 SEA Games gold medalist Tan Fu Jie will lead the squad along with Mohd Sharul Aimy, Ng Chun Chen, Teoh Chuen Feng, Luqman Al Hafiz Zulfa and Zul Bahrin Mat Asri.

For the women’s artistic team, it is composed of Tan Ing Yueh, Rachel Yeoh Li Wen, Geanie Ng Ee Ling and Zarith Imaan Khalid.

While for the rhythmic individual events, Koi Sie Yan, Izzah Amzan, Ng Joe Ee and Lai Yun Jo will try to dominate again the event.

And for the rhythmic group event, Malaysia will be bannered by Shak Yuki, Ng Jia Wen, Ashley Lim Xin Yi, Maia Ong Xiao Han, Jingle Shak Qi and Yap Yi Tung.

 

Part of its preparation for SEA Games, the Malaysia Gymnastics team had their training camp in Baku, Azerbaijan last November 10 to December 10.

 

Meanwhile, multiple SEA Games gold medalist Farah Ann Abdul Hadi will not anymore compete for the Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam following her retirement as confirmed by Malaysian gymnastics officials. 
 

Philippines' Carlos Yulo - A Gymnast To Watch for in 2021 Tokyo Olympics

 

Tokyo Olympic bound athlete Carlos Edriel Yulo of the Philippines is slowly getting his form after winning two bronze medals at 2020 All-Japan Gymnastics Championships held in Takasaki, Japan. The competition was held from December 10 to 13.

Yulo landed third place in the floor exercise with the score of 15.200 in the finals and in vault finals with 14.866 score. He also finished 8th place in men's all-around finals. 

 

At the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Yulo claimed gold in the floor exercise finals. A historic feat as the first ever Filipino winning gold at a world gymnastics championships.

 

With the above mentioned achievements and being Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, all eyes are on him in Tokyo Olympics. Will he be the first ever Olympic gold medalist from the Philippines? 

The other Filipinos who already qualified for the Olympics are pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena and boxers Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno.

 

 

 

SEA Games 2019 News 047: Cambodian Gymnast To Train in China

In preparation for the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games 2019 to be held in the Philippines, Cambodia has sent one athlete to China for intensive gymnastics training.

Cambodian Gymnastics Federation sent gymnast Vy Pheatra for an eight-month training in Shantou, Guangdong, China to enhance and develop gymnastics skills and techniques.

The training costs would be carried  by the Royal Government of Cambodia through the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports while the monthly stipend would be provided by the federation.

At the 2017 SEA Games, Cambodia sent only one gymnast in artistic events but failed to win medal.

The preparation of Cambodia in gymnastics is to develop and improve gymnastics skills and also to deep learn the technical aspects of the sport.

The federation also focuses on increasing international standard of coaching and training the judges to a higher level.

The federation hopes to hold a national championships ahead of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

With Phnom Penh hosting the 2023 SEA Games, the federation said it also had longer-term development aims.

15th FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships 2018

The 15th FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships 2018 was held at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Guimarães in Guimarães, Portugal from June 1 to 3.

Vietnam was the sole team from Southeast Asia and was able to enter in 3 final events.

Vietnam Team ranked 6th overall in team event with 34 points.

Russia struck 3 gold medals, Japan with 2 gold medals while China, Korea and Italy won 1 gold medal each.

8th FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Age Group Competitions

The 8th FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Age Group Competitions was held at the Multiusos de Guimarães from May 25 to 27  which attracted over 360 gymnasts from 29 countries.

There were two age divisions featured at this competition: Age Group 1 featured gymnasts born in 2004-2006 and Age Group 2 gymnasts born in 2001-2003.

Russia took eight gold medals while the lone Southeast Asian representative Vietnam brought home 1 gold medal in the Trio event. 

Vietnam trio team was composed of Huynh Tien Phuoc, Nguyen Khanh Hung and Nguyen Ngoc Anh Vy who garnered a total score of 20.000 in the finals to claim the gold medal.

Gymnastics | Koper World Challenge Cup - Slovenia 2018

Vietnamese gymnasts claimed two gold medals at the World Challenge Cup 2018 in Slovenia.

Le Thanh Tung and Dinh Duong Thanh became victorious after topping their respective events.

Le Thanh Tung topped the vault event to win his second World Challenge Cup title on Vault following last year's victory in Doha.

Teammate Dinh Phuong Thanh struck gold on Parallel Bars, followed by Andrei Muntean of Romania and Matteo Levantesi of Italy.

The men's event's of this challenge cup were dominated by Asian gymnasts claiming the remaining gold medals. Japanese gymnasts claimed the 4 other gold medals in floor exercise, horizontal bar, rings and pommel horse.  

Samsul Arifin and Agus Prayogo of Indonesia also competed in the men's event but were not able to advance in the finals. Their female counterpart also competed like Rifda  Irfanaluthfi who qualified in the 3 final events.

The event was held at the Arena Bonifika from May 31 to June 3.

4th Asian Senior and Junior Trampoline Gymnastics Championships 2018

4th Asian Senior and Junior Trampoline Gymnastics Championships was held at the University of Makati Gym from May 19 and 20.

Erin Abaniel of the Philippines won an outright bronze medal in the senior - women's senior event after scoring 11.700 points behind gold medalist Shivani Dound scoring 35.635 and Siddhi Breed with 28.515 (silver medalist) both from India.

The event was participated by 3 competitors.

In boys senior event, the Kazakhs ruled the event after Pirmammad Aliyev snatched the gold (54.74) and Daniyar Tusupov (51.8) won the bronze medal. North Korea's Yun Song Kim received the silver medal (52.805).

In the junior and qualifying event for the Youth Olympic Games, China and Japan's gymnasts dominate the event. 

The following are the medalists and qualified athletes for Gymnastics - Trampoline Event.

Boys - Gold -Takumi Fujimoto (Japan) 55.755; Silver - Hayato Miyano (Japan) 55.660 & Bronze -Wei Wu (China) 53.545

Girls - Xinyi Fan (China) 54.740; Silver - Junyi Yan (China) 52.805 & Bronze - Serina Masuzaki (Japan) 51.800

Benjamin Jesus Mendoza of host Philippines made into the finals but his score was not enough to make it to the podium.

Other gymnasts from the Philippines were Shane Francis Peralta in the boys division and Fiona Mae Ventenilla in the girls division. Francisco Deorelar in the men’s division and Erin Abaniel in the women’s division.

Hong Kong, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Uzbekistan and Southeast Asia's Vietnam also competed i this two-day event. 

2018 Aerobic Gymnastics FIG World Cup

Congratulations to team Vietnam for winning two gold medals at the FIG Suzuki World Cup held at the Ota-City Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan from April 21 to 22.

Team Vietnam got their gold medal harvest from the Group and Trio events.

Vietnam’s Aerobic gymnast team composed of  Le Hoang Phong, Nguyen Che Thanh, Nguyen Viet Anh, Vuong Hoai An and Tran Ngoc Thuy Vi just placed 5th in the qualifying round last Saturday but stole the top podium on Sunday in the finals.

In the trio event, Vietnam's Nguyen Viet Anh, Vuong Hoai An and Tran Ngoc Thuy Vi continued their good performance to claim another gold medal.

The medals were Vietnam’s first World Cup gold medals for five years.

In the Individual Men’s event, the a gold medal went to Mizuki Saito of host Japan who narrowly edged his old rival Daniel Bali of Hungary.
