#SEAGames2023 News | Philippines' Volleyball Teams for SEA Games

The official Facebook page of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has released the names of its indoor and beach volleyball team members for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games on April 2.

Alyssa Valdez will spearhead the women's team alongside with five member-team from the 2021 SEA Games and with setter Julia Melissa Morado-De Guzman who saw action from the 2019 SEA Games while the other half of the team are newbies to SEA Games.

 

Meanwhile, Vince Raphael Mangulabnan will lead the men's team along with Joshua Umandal and Manual Sumangid III who were part of the men's team from the last SEA Games in Vietnam. The other eleven members are all first timers for the Southeast Asian Games. 

 

For beach volleyball, veteran campaigner Rondina, Gonzaga, Pons and Rodriguez will be fielded for the women's division while Abdilla, Requinton, Garcia and Buytrago will banner the men's side. 

 

The indoor volleyball will start on May 3 at the Indoor Main Hall, Olympic Complex, prior to the opening ceremony of the SEA Games while the beach volleyball will be held in Sihanoukville, Otres Beach on May 11.

SEA Games 2019 News 054: Former PH National Players Ready For Coaching

Former beach volleyball national players Rhovyl Verayo and Parley Tupaz of the Philippines will lead again the national squad at the Southeast Asian Games but this time as national co-coaches.

The tandem already represented the Philippines at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha with two wins and two losses.

And now, the duo are looking for athletes who will best represent the country at the biennial.

As reported, an on-going tryout for beach volleyball is happening that will make-up the two-pair teams for men.

The last time the Philippines won medal was in their home court at the 2005 SEA Games but it was in the women's division. 

Thailand Sweeps Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Tourney

The SMM Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Championship was concluded with Thailand sweeping the men's and women's titles.

Thatsarida Singchuea and Pawarun Chanthawichai captured the women's title after beating Chanthira and Yodsaphat in all Thai finals. The match scores were 22-20, 13-21, 25-23.

The two Thai teams defeated two teams from China in the semi finals.

With the victory of Singchuea and Chanthawichai, Thailand defended the women's title they have won two years ago.

In the men's event, it was the tandem of Phanupong and Phichako who became victorious over their rival Australia in the finals. It was a sweet revenge for Thailand from the last Asian U21 beach volleyball championship. 

The match ended with identical two-set scores of 21-15.

Aside from Thailand, other Southeast Asian nations who took part of the event were Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Laos and Malaysia.

The tournament was held in Roi-Et in Thailand from March 15 to 18.

SEA Games 2019 News 022: Indonesia on High Note for Volleyball Events

After finishing with two silver medals in men's and women's volleyball at the 2017 Malaysian SEA Games, Indonesia is targeting a higher podium for men and to maintain the women's second place finish in volleyball in the upcoming SEA Games 2019.

Indonesia is in good tune of music in terms of preparation of their volleyball athletes for the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines. 

Weeks after the grand finale of Proliga (the Indonesian top level competition for volleyball clubs), its national teams (men and women) are gearing up for Asian level competitions.

The women's side will compete in the Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship in Seoul, Korea on August and will collide against rival Vietnam in the early stage of the competition.

Both Indonesia and Vietnam teams are grouped in Pool D along with powerhouse China and Sri Lanka. This will be a test and estimation of team strengths for both Indonesia and Vietnam teams prior to SEA Games on November. 

While its men's team will compete in the Asian Senior Men's Championship to be held in Iran on September.

But selection of prospective players are still running and monitored from Livoli to Proliga tournaments. And number of trial agendas have been prepared, including gathering of players in May to the next six months.

Aside from the two mentioned tournaments, there are also two events in Indonesia that can be used as preparations ahead of the 2019 SEA Games.

Meanwhile, Indonesia is very optimistic of getting the gold medals in beach volleyball events because of their achievements at the 2018 Asian Games - one silver and two bronze medals.

🏐 CEZA and First Cagayan Beach Volleyball Republic International Santa Ana Open 2018

Malaysia and Philippines dominate the CEZA and First Cagayan Beach Volleyball Republic International Santa Ana Open 2018 which was held in Cagayan in the Philippines from June 9 to 10.

Lot Catubag and Karen Quilario of Davao (Philippines) won in the women's event after beating Demontaño and Jackie Estoquia in the all Filipino final event.

Meanwhile, Malaysians Raja Nazmi Hussin and Mohd Aizzat Zokri captures the men's title after defeating local bet Kevin Juban and Raphy Abanto of University of the Visayas (Philippines) to claim $3,500 top prize.

Jade Becaldo and Calvin Sarte took the bronze medal beating the team from Czech Republic.

Other than host Philippines and Malaysia, teams from Singapore, Czech Republic and Hong Kong participated at the two-day event.
