Good Fight From SEA Young Keglers

Six young Southeast Asian bowlers competed at the IBF Youth World Cup 2024 in Lima, Peru from January 19 to 27.

 

These were Malaysia's Nur Hazirah Binti Ramli and Megat Zaqrul Haiqal, Philippines' Danielle Lazo and Artegal Barrientos and Singapore's Ning Tay and Aiman Raedyn Lim Jen.

 

From the six young keglers, only Haiqal of Malaysia and Ning Tay of Singapore reached the semifinals of their respective divisions.

 

However, the two bowlers finished outside the medal podium of the competition. Haiqal settled 4th after losing to Lukas Jelinek of Czech Republic in the Boys' bronze medal match, 0-2 (223-224, 192-196) while Tay had the same fate losing to Sara Duque of Colombia in Grils' division, 2-0 (207-210, 212-225).

Meanwhile, Singapore's Aiman Raedyn Lim Jen & Nur Hazirah Binti Ramli of Malaysia failed to advance in the semifinals after losing to their respective opponents in the quarterfinals. While Philippine bets did not advance to the second stage of the competition and both ended in 10th place.

 

Southeast Asian bowlers are in the right direction as our SEA bowlers had a good fight in this World Cup event.

Malaysia & Singapore Win Big at Asian Bowling Championships

Bowlers from Malaysia and Singapore were successful  in their campaigns at the recently concluded 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships held in Hong Kong. The event which offered twelve (12) events was scheduled from January 9 to 18.

Malaysia who raked a total of 12 medals dominated the men's events including 4 gold medals. Meanwhile, Singapore topped the medal tally board winning 11 medals that includes 4 gold medals from women's event and a lone gold medal from the men's event.

Aside from Malaysia and Singapore, other participating Southeast Asian teams were Philippines and Thailand.

SEA Bowlers Started with a Bang

The Singapore and Malaysian tenpin bowlers won medals on the first day of the 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships being held in Hong Kong. The singles events for both men and women's divisions were played on Tuesday, January 10. 

 

Southeast Asian teams from Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand are taking part in this Asian tilt which will run until January 18.

Malaysia & Singapore brought pride for Southeast Asian region as the two countries took home medals in team & individual events.

 

Team Malaysia takes the bronze medal in the women's team event after an edge to edge battle against the United States. In the men's team, the Philippines fell short to host Australia in a battle for 3rd place position and settled only for 4th place.

For individual event, New Hui Fen of Singapore settled for silver medal in the women's event. She failed to beat Bryanna Cote of United States in the finals. Meanwhile,  Timmy Tan of Malaysia and Lara Posadas of the Philippines both ended 4th place in the men's and women's events respectively.  

 

Tan misses out on the podium with a lost to Kris Prather of United States in a tight bronze medal match while Posadas overpowered by Germany's Birgit Noreiks.

#SEAGames2021 News 034 | Malaysian Keglers Named for SEA Games

 

 

The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) will rely on its second stringers to vie for medals in  the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.

Below are the team members that will represent Malaysia in SEA Games that will commence on May 12. 

Malaysia's elite keglers who will not see action in Hanoi SEA Games are preparing for three big competitions - the Wolrd Games in United States, Singapore Open and the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Hong Kong.

 

Last SEA Games in the Philippines, Malaysia bagged two gold medals and couple of silver and bronze medals.

The 20th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships 2019 was held at the Megalanes Sarawak, Batu Kawa, Kuching in Sarawak, Malaysia from the 17th to 25th of April 2019.

2019 World Bowling Junior Championships

The 2019 World Bowling Junior Championships was held at 28-lane Plaza Bowling in Saint-Maximin, France (preliminaries) from the 17th to 24th of March.

Singapore and the Philippines are the most successful teams at this junior world championships collecting medals in different events.

World Bowling Youth Championships 2018

The World Bowling Youth Championships 2018 was held at Allen Park, Michigan, United States from July 24 to August 3.

Our Southeast Asian teams did good performances to win medals at this year's edition.

19-year-old Nur Syazwani Sahar of Malaysia won the gold medal in the girls' all events posting a 1,294 (singles), 1,309 (doubles) and 1,334 (team) for a grand total of 3,937 pinfalls, averaging 218.72.

Clinching the bronze medal is team Philippines in the boy's team of four event. 

Team Philippines is composed of Ivan Malig, Kenzo Umali, Praise Gahol and Merwin Tan. 

The team failed to advance in the finals after a defeat from team Qatar. 

Aside from the Philippines, team Malaysia also clinched bronze medal in the girls' team of four event. 

Team Malaysia was bannered by Nur Amirah Auni Azman, Nur Ameerahusna Aznel, Nur Syazwani Sahar and Gillian Siew Giok Lim. 

The Malaysian squad was overpowered by United States team in the semi finals. 

Also in the competition were team Singapore and Thailand.

🎳 2nd Philippine Bowling Federation International Open 2018

The 2nd Philippine Bowling Federation International Open 2018 is being held at the Coronado Lanes in Starmall, Mandaluyong City from May 7 to May 13.

Southeast Asian teams from Malaysia, Singapore and host Philippines will up against bowlers from Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, United Arab Emirates and Australia.

The tournament serves as a preparation tournament of Asian teams to the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

🎳 World Bowling Championships 2017

The 2017 World Bowling Championships for men and women was held from November 25 through December 4 at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

Six disciplines were contested at this edition's championships. These were singles, doubles, trios, team, all-events and masters. 

Southeast Asian bowlers from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand competed at this world championships of bowling.

In the men's and women's singles events, our Southeast Asian (SEA) keglers were unable to advance in the semi final round. Futaba Imao from Japan won the women's singles title after defeating Mai Ginge Jensen of Denmark in the finals. While in the men's event, it was Xander van Mazijk of Netherlands who won the title beating Taipei's Hao-Ming Wu in the championship match.

For the doubles event, Shalin Zulkifli and Sin Li Jane of Malaysia won second place after a defeat against South Korea duo in the final match of the women's event.  While Chris Barnes and Tommy Jones of the United States captured the men's doubles title

In Trio events, Indonesian trio of Putty Armein, Sharon Limansantoso and Tannya Roumimper reached the semi finals of the women's category but was halted to advance in the finals by team USA. Unfortunately for the men's trio, no SEA teams reached the semi final round.

In the team event, it was a sweet victory for Southeast Asia as team Singapore and Malaysia faced each other for title. At the end, it was the team from Malaysia composed of Syaidatul Afifah, Natasha Roslan, Siti Safiyah, Shalin Zulkifli and Li Jane Sin won outpowered team Singapore composed of Hui Fen New, Shayna Ng, Daphne Tan, Jazreel Tan and Cherie Tan. Team Singapore settled as runner up.

In Men's team of team, SEA teams were unlucky to go thru the semi finals. The team from United States won the event.

Malaysia's Ahmad Muaz reached the top  8 of the men's all event but sadly got not enough points to get into the top 3. Whereas of the women's side, Siti Safiyah of Malaysia won the silver medal after scoring a total of 5048. 

For masters events, the women's event was dominated by Southeast Asia. Three bowlers got into the semi finals. Shyna Ng of Singapore settled for bronze after she was outscored by Dawun Jung of Korea while Indonesia's Sharon Limansantoso also settled also for bronze after a defeat from Malaysia's Li Jane Sin.

The finals of women's masters ended with Dawun Jung of Korea taking home the title. Li Jane Sin of Malaysia just placed second and won the silver medal.

Overall, our Southeast Asian women's bowlers were successful in their campaign especially the team from Malaysia who won 1 gold and 3 silver medals. 

🎳 18th Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships 2017

The 18th Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships 2017 was successfully held at Megalanes Sarawak in Kuching, Malaysia with a total of 63 boys and 28 girls from 10 countries. The event started on November 13 and ended November 17.

Host Malaysia snatched the overall championship by winning 6 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals. Indonesia came 4th place overall with a lone gold medal while Singapore won 1 silver and 5 bronze medals. 

Other Southeast Asian country who saw action but did not medal at this tournament was Philippines. 

Other non-ASEAN countries that won medals were Hong Kong with 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals, Australia with 1 gold and 2 silver medals and India with a bronze medal.

🎳 53rd QuibicaAMF Bowling World Cup 2017

2017 Quibica AMF Bowling World Cup was held at the Bol 300 lanes in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

Our Southeast Asian countries did a very good job by winning the women's title and reached the semi finals in the men's side.

In the women's division, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman of Malaysia and Krizziah Lyn Tabora of the Philippines qualified for the next round of the competition with 5149 and 5098. Siti ranked 6th while Tabora ranked 8th after the qualifying or elimination round. The two were among the top 24 that proceeded to the next round.

Unfortunately, Charlene Lim of Singapore failed to cross the top 24 of women's event. Lim managed to collect 4534 only and placed 27th overall in the qualifying round.

Tabora (PHI) and Rahman (MAS) reached the semi-finals in separate ways and met each other in the finals for the title round. Tabora defeated Rocio Restrepo of Colombia in the semifinals (249-222) while Rahman defeated Swedish bowler Jenny Wegner, 227-197. 

At the final round, Krizziah Lyn Tabora of the Philippines won over Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman of Malaysia,  236-191, to claim the QuibicaAMF Bowling World Cup 2017 for the women's division.

In the men's division, Ahmad Muaz Mohd Fishol of Malaysia topped the elimination round and advance for the next round with a total of 5334 score.

He also reached the semi finals but did not win against Jakob Butturff of the United States who won the title for this year's male division.

Meanwhile, Brandan Tan of Singapore and Jomar Roland Jumapao of the Philippines failed to advance and just  placed 31st and 33rd overall respectively among 64 male competitors.

🎳 19th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships

Mandaluyong City of the Philippines played host of the 19th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships. The tournament was held from October 22 to 28 and participated by 15 countries.

Four Southeast Asian countries competed at this biennial championships. These are Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and host Philippines. All teams from Southeast Asia made it in the medal tally board with Malaysia collecting a gold medal, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal. Singapore collected a gold and a silver medals. Indonesia got 2 silver and a bronze medals while host Philippines won a bronze medal.
