Indonesia Prepares for Two Big Tournaments

The Indonesia women’s basketball team had won all its three matches against Team Singapore which took place on February 27, 28, and March 1 at the Cita Hati School East Surabaya.

The Indonesian team is currently undergoing a training camp in preparation for two big tournaments. The team is set to compete in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup - Division A this July and in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand this December.

Indonesia took home the gold medal in the women’s basketball at the 2023 SEA Games held in Cambodia.

Nayaka Budhidarma of Indonesia is set to represent the country in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this coming December. Nayaka recently won in the rapid chess tournament open category at the Ramadhan Cup 2025 held at Wisma Kemenpora, Senayan, Central Jakarta.

Nayaka accumulated a score of 8.5 points, defeating Dzithauly Ramadhan and IM Gilbert Elroy. He also successfully defeated GM Susanto Megaranto in the eighth round.

The event was participated by 452 chess wizards from 22 provinces of Indonesia.

Bronson Meydi is the New World Junior Champion

 

 

Indonesian surfer Bronson Meydi for winning the World Surf League (WSL) World Junior Championship title held in San Juan, La Union, the Philippines, on Saturday. Meydi defeated Winter Vicent from Australia in the finals, 18.80 - 17.84.

Four SEA Judokas in Paris Olympics

 

Four Southeast Asian judokas will compete in Paris Olympics this coming July after continental quotas are awarded to them.

 

These athletes are Kiyomi Watanabe of the Philippines in the Women's -63kg,

Maryam March Maharani of Indonesia (Women's -52kg), Hoàng Thị Tình of Vietnam (Women's -48kg) and Masayuki Terada of Thailand (Men's -73kg).

 

 

🔥 #Paris2024 | Indonesia Added to More Athletes in Sport Climbing

 

Congratulations to the following Indonesian athletes who qualified for Sport Climbing in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Both athletes finished 3rd place or won the small finals in their respective events at the Olympic Qualifier Series 2024 in Budapest.

Indonesia has qualified four athletes (maximum) in this sport in Paris Olympics. The first two athletes who qualified are Rahmad Adi Mulyono and Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi.

 

 

 

3 SEA Athletes Qualify To Paris Olympics 2024

 

Southeast Asian athletes started the year with good results as three shooters bagged qualification quotas at the 2024 Asian Rifle & Pistol Championships held in Jakarta, Indonesia from January 5 to 18. 

 

Host Indonesia qualifies one athlete courtesy of Fathur Gustafian in the 10m Air Rifle Men event. Gustafian placed 4th in the finals of the said event.

 

Meanwhile, Le Thi Mong Tuyen from Vietnam finished 5th place in the 10m Air Rifle Women event and secured Olympic ticket to Paris this year.

 

The last to qualify from Southeast Asian region is Thongphaphum Vongsukdee of Thailand who won bronze medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Position Men event. Vongsukdee secured one of the two quota places for Paris Olympics 2024.

 

Aside from the Asian Rifle & Pistol Championship in Jakarta, Kuwait is also hosting an Asian Championships (shotgun) which is also a qualification phase for Paris Olympics. As of now, no athletes from the SEA region qualifies in Kuwait tournament.

 

 

Indonesia Takes First Ever Medal At World Championships

Asian Games-bound & SEA Games gold medalist Felix Viktor Iberle won the gold medal in the men's 50m breaststroke clocking 27.39 at the Junior World Championships 2023 in Netanya, Israel on Sunday morning. Iberle is the first Indonesian to win medal at World Championships.

Iberle also set a new record for the World Junior Championship with a time of 26.98s in the preliminary heat.

 

Iberle will see action in Hangzhou Asian Games along with swimmer Masniari Wolf who also won gold medal in the 2023 SEA Games.

Rivan Nurmulki, one of the most decorated medalists of Indonesian men's volleyball team was dropped from the initial list of players going to the 19th Asian Games in China. 

 

As per source, there is an ongoing mediation between Rivan and its national federation to smoothen the situation between the two parties.

Also, there were rumors that Rivan is at the early stage of negotiations with club teams in Central Asia where he could possibly play until 2024.

Rivan propels the Indonesian team to get its third consecutive title in the Southeast Asian Games since 2019 and has played with several clubs abroad.

 

Volleyball fans are hoping that Rivan will be included in the men's national team since there is a mediation going on.

 

 

✹ #AsianGames | Indonesia to Compete with 415 Athletes

 

Indonesia will compete in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China with 415 athletes and 161 officials. This was conveyed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo.

 

Indonesia is targeting eight to twelve gold medals and to finish at least in Top 8 in the medal table. The expectation for gold medal harvest of Indonesia was lowered. Unlike in the 2018 Asian Games where Indonesia hosted, pencak silat contributed half of its gold medals. In this edition, silat was not in the programme of Hangzhou Asian Games.

 

Indonesia bagged 31 gold medals in the 2018 Asian Games and finished in 4th place in the medal table.

Meanwhile, Indonesia will send 134 athletes to participate in 12 sports at the 2022 Asian Para Games.

 

SEA Teams Dominated Asian Women's Challenge Cup

Southeast Asian teams dominated the 2023 Asian Women's Volleyball Challenge Cup which was held at the Tridharma Sports Hall in Gresik, East Java, Indonesia from June 18 to 25 with eleven competing teams.

Vietnam  captured the 4th AVC Challenge Cup title after defeating host Indonesia in the finals, 25-18, 25-27, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13. This is Vietnam's second gold medal at an Asian-level after winning the Women's Club Volleyball Championship last May.

 

Aside from powerhouse Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia are beginning to make names in the women's volleyball not only in Southeast Asia but in Asia. 

 

The victory of Vietnam and Indonesia proves that they can be named as the Elite 3 Teams of Women's Volleyball in Southeast Asia together with Thailand. These three teams also hold the top three positions in the last 18 years of women's volleyball in the Southeast Asian Games.

Individual Awardees

 

Aside from gold and silver medals, some of Vietnam and Indonesian players were given individual awards. 

 

Three players from Vietnam were awarded. These are Trần Thị Thanh Thúy (Most Valuable Player and Best Outside spiker), Đoàn Thị Lâm Oanh (Best Setter) and Đinh Thị Trà Giang (Best Middle Blocker)

For Indonesia, Wilda Nurfadhilah was awarded Best Middle Blocker, Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi (Best Opposite Spiker) and Yulis Indahyani as Best Libero.

 

Meanwhile, Philippines also competed in this event and finished in 7th place overall.

Indonesia Sweeps Group B at Asia Cup Qualifier in HongKong

 

Indonesia advances to the main draw of the Women’s Baseball Asia Cup to be held in Hong Kong after sweeping their Group B matches in the qualifier round. Indonesia defeated Sri Lanka (24-3), Hong Kong (22-2) and Pakistan (8-2).

 

The qualifier was held at Sai Tso Wan Stadium in Hong Kong from May 21 to May 23 with seven teams separated into two groups.

In Group A, Thailand and Malaysia was overpowered by India who will also advance to the main draw. India beat Thailand in their first game,  9-8, and Malaysia on Day 3 of the qualifier, 19-0. Meanwhile, Thailand dominated Malaysia, 11-3 to claim the second spot in Group A.

India who topped Group A and Indonesia for Group B will advance to the Asia Cup to be held in Hong Kong starting May 26. Indonesia will join Japan, Korea and the Philippines in Group B while India will compete against China, Taipei and host Hong Kong in Group A.

 

The top 4 of this tournament will qualify for the Women’s Baseball World Cup later this year.

Indonesia Makes History For Reaching Asian Volleyball Finals

After a back-to-back championship in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, Indonesia takes another feat in the Asian volleyball stage as it finished runner-up behind Japan's Suntory Sunbirds Volleyball club in the gold medal match.

 

Represented by Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi, the Indonesian volleyball club set a historic event when it reached the finals of the Asian Men's Club Volleyball Championship held in Manama, Bahrain and clinched the silver medal for the white and red flag. The last time an Indonesian volleyball club won medal was 2006 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

 

Indonesia who was bracketed in Pool A in the preliminary round got a 2 win - 1 loss record to move in Pool E where the top two teams from Pool A and Pool C are joined together to battle it out for the rights to the semifinals. The Indonesian squad advances to the semifinals after winning one game in Pool E and losing only to Suntory Sunbirds of Japan.

In the semifinals, they defeated Pool F's winner Police Sports Club and reached the gold medal match to meet again the Suntory Sunbirds of Japan.

Aside from Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi, the other Southeast Asian club team who competed was Thailand's Diamond Food Fine Chef where they landed 13th place overall.

The Indonesia basketball national team who won the gold medal in the men's basketball in the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam is determined to defend its title in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.

With high target, team Indonesia set a training camp in Australia from April 4 to April 25 with 15 athletes.

The 15-man pool for Australia training camp includes naturalized players Jerome Anthony Beane, Dame Diagne and come backing Lester Prosper. 

 

Completing the pool are Andakara Prastawa, Widyanta Putra Teja, Yudha Saputera, Muhamad Arighi, Yesaya Saudale, Althof Dwira Satrio, M. Sandy Ibrahim Aziz, Juan Laurent Kokodiputra, Kaleb Ramot Gemilang, Vincent Kosasih, Kelvin Sanjaya and Julian Chalias. 

 

Indonesia is serious of defending the men's basketball title as they knew that Philippines will try to get back the gold medal to their hands.

With the defeat of the Philippines in men's 5x5 basketball and in 3x3 basketball events last SEA Games, it completely changes the mindset of other Southeast Asian teams for basketball. That it is possible to beat Philippines in SEA Games.

The 5x5 Basketball competition is scheduled to take place at Elephant Hall 2, Morodok Techo on May 9 to May 16 while the 3x3 events is on May 6 to 7 at the same venue.

#SEAGames2023 | 599 Strong Indonesian Athletes To Compete in Cambodia

The Indonesian contingent to the 32nd southeast Asian Games is made up of 599 determined athletes. It is composed of 379 male and 220 female athletes that will compete in 31 sports.

 

Indonesia will not send athletes in traditional chess, floorball, sailing, petanque and table tennis. Indonesia also withdrew its women's football team which is drawn already in Group A.

 

Indonesia finished 3rd overall in the medal tally at the last SEA Games in Vietnam with 69 gold medals. 

 

Four sports that gave Indonesia a big number of gold medals are not scheduled to be contested in Cambodia SEA Games this May. These sports are shooting (8), rowing (8), canoeing (6) and archery (4) that contributed a combined total of 27 gold medals.

#SEAGames2023 | Indonesia Targets 2 Golds in Taekwondo

Indonesia is targeting to win at least two gold medals in taekwondo at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia. 

They will rely on four taekwondo athletes whom they think can best delivery the gold medals for the red and white flag. 

 

These athletes are Kadek Heni Prikasih in the women's -46kg, Silvana Lamanda in the women's -67kg, Muhammad Bassam Raihan in men's -63kg and Osanando Naufal Khairudin Men -80kg.

 

The Indonesia taekwondo team competed in the 2023 Bulgaria Open that was held in Sofia from March 3 to 5 where they bagged a gold medal courtesy of Ni Kadek Heni Prikasih in women's -46kg event.

 

Also, some of its athletes competed in Thailand last February and in ASEAN Taekwondo Championships in Manila last March. They are said to have trained also in Serbia where they got along with the Greek, Russian and German teams.

 

The result in Bulgaria and the training in Serbia serves as a motivation to achieve the best result in the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. The taekwondo competition is going to take place at the Chroy Changvar Convention Centre Hall F from May 12 to May 15.

#SEAGames2023 | Indonesian Badminton Players for Cambodia

Twenty athletes will represent Indonesia in badminton at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia. Indonesia is aiming to win at least four gold medals at the biennial meet despite the absence of its top shuttlers who are focusing on the Sudirman Cup that will take place on May 14 to 21 in China.

 

2023 SEA Games badminton competition will start from May 8 until May 16 at the Badminton Hall Morodok Techo. This will coincide to the dates of Sudriman Cup tournament allowing other top Indoensian smashers for SEA Games.

Meantime, here are the combined junior and senior players that will see action in the 32nd SEA Games.
