SEA Games 2019 News 069: Malaysia Lawn Bowl Team's Initial Preparation is in Australia

The Malaysian Lawn Bowl team will start their preparation for the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games to be held in the Philippines.

Part of their preparation is to send their lawn bowlers to a competition in Australia.

Around 20 athletes will be sent to Gold Coast to compete in singles, pairs, threes and fours events.

Although only six events will be played at the biennial meet in November, they will still participate in singles events at the Australian tourney. 

For the upcoming 30th SEA Games, singles categories (men and women) are omitted in the events calendared.

With this initial preparation, Malaysia may repeat their 2017 SEA Games lawn bowl victory where they won 7 out of the 8 gold medals.

Kinabalu Borneo Cup 2017

The Kinabalu Borneo Cup 2017 was held at the Likas Lawn Bowls Stadium early week of July. It was participated by the national team of Philippines, six teams from Brunei, five from Hong Kong, three from the Peninsula of Malaysia, four from Polytechnics Malaysia, nine from Labuan and the rest from Sabah.

The Philippine Lawn Bowls national team won the gold medal in the ladies' triples composed of Hazel Jagonoy, Vilma Ronalyn Greenlees and Rosita Bradborn while team Philippines F won the bronze. Team Labuan X settled for silver medal. The other bronze medalist was Kota Kinabalu-based Solid team.

The Philippine Lawn Bowlers are hoping to win at least one gold in the upcoming 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games. The Ladies' Fours won bronze in the World Cup last December 2016 in Christchurch, New Zealand. (Photo credited/via New Sabah Times)
