SEA Games 2019 News 047: Cambodian Gymnast To Train in China


In preparation for the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games 2019 to be held in the Philippines, Cambodia has sent one athlete to China for intensive gymnastics training.

Cambodian Gymnastics Federation sent gymnast Vy Pheatra for an eight-month training in Shantou, Guangdong, China to enhance and develop gymnastics skills and techniques.

The training costs would be carried  by the Royal Government of Cambodia through the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports while the monthly stipend would be provided by the federation.

At the 2017 SEA Games, Cambodia sent only one gymnast in artistic events but failed to win medal.

The preparation of Cambodia in gymnastics is to develop and improve gymnastics skills and also to deep learn the technical aspects of the sport.

The federation also focuses on increasing international standard of coaching and training the judges to a higher level.

The federation hopes to hold a national championships ahead of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

With Phnom Penh hosting the 2023 SEA Games, the federation said it also had longer-term development aims.
