Indonesia will compete in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China with 415 athletes and 161 officials. This was conveyed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo.
Indonesia is targeting eight to twelve gold medals and to finish at least in Top 8 in the medal table. The expectation for gold medal harvest of Indonesia was lowered. Unlike in the 2018 Asian Games where Indonesia hosted, pencak silat contributed half of its gold medals. In this edition, silat was not in the programme of Hangzhou Asian Games.
Indonesia bagged 31 gold medals in the 2018 Asian Games and finished in 4th place in the medal table.
Meanwhile, Indonesia will send 134 athletes to participate in 12 sports at the 2022 Asian Para Games.
