The
Philippine Athletics Track And Field Association (PATAFA) is leaving the
door open for Ernest John Obiena to
defend his Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) pole vault title.
This leaves a slim opening for pole vaulter Obiena a chance to don again the Philippine flag with the condition that he will have to do his part to earn his berth in the national team that will compete in the SEA Games in May in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Like
other athletes in the world, Tokyo Olympian Obiena has this serious
dispute with his national federation that cause him not to be pre-listed
for SEA Games. But the athletics' door is now slightly open for him and
that is good development not only for him but for the the athletics
team of the Philippines.
Recently he breaks the national indoor pole vault record posting a
personal-best of 5.91 meters to claim the silver medal in the Persche
Elite Tour 2022 in France early this month.
So far, nine local-based athletes are already qualified for the athletic team of the Philippines.
