The 2021 Southeast Asian Games which will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam will feature 36 sports with 450 events.
The Vietnam Organizing committee already identified the 30 sports including the Olympic centerpiece sports - Athletics and Aquatics.
While several sports are to be identified, some countries appealed to include some sports which are beneficial for their 31st SEA Games campaign.
For instance, Indonesia and the Philippines proposed to include triathlon, e-sports, sambo and modern pentathlon.
Indonesia also wants to include bowling, jujitsu and teqball while the Philippines is lobbying for skateboarding, obstacle racing and arnis.
Other appeals include the sports of indoor hockey, muay thai, floorball, netball, lawn bowls, squash, rugby 7s, sailing, cricket, traditional boat race and soft tennis.
The number of sports to be contested during the Games will be officially announced 12 months before the start of the sports event scheduled to be held from November 21 to December 2 next year.
Insights/Opinions from the author:
The remaining sports to be identified is like a consolation for other countries. I think Vietnam as host has already planned the sports events which are favorable for them like what other host country did in the previous SEA Games editions.
With the above mentioned sports, arnis, sambo, triathlon (2 events), e-sports and jujitsu probably has high chances of getting into the final rooster of events in next year's SEA Games. Vietnam has high chances of winning gold medals in arnis.
