SEA Games 2019 News 046: Hopeful Female Athlete To Represent Brunei Once Again

Brunei who always send more or less five athletes in athletics at the Southeast Asian Games is hoping to send female athlete for the biennial meet this coming November.

The last time Brunei Darussalam sent a female athlete at SEA Games was in 2013 Myanmar SEA Games.

This year hopes are high for Brunei female athlete as Maziah Mahusin, the first female athlete to compete for Brunei at the Olympic Games is now approaching her full fitness once again.

Mahusin who got suffered from calcaneal spurs on her right heel from 2010 underwent successful surgery and have them removed in July 2017.

Her recovery requires mental and physical strength. And part of her fitness routine was swimming.

With her full determination to recovery, she was cleared to compete at the Brunei Track & Field Open last May 2018 and she proved that she is still the one to beat.

Now that the 2019 SEA Games is fast approaching, she still needs to lower her time in the 100m, 200m and 400m events.

Her goal is to run the 100m under 13s, 200m under 26s and 400m under one minute. She hopes that she will be chosen to represent once again team Brunei and hopefully win medal.

The last time Brunei won medal in athletics was 12 years ago at the 2007 SEA Games held in Thailand courtesy of Yusof Mohammad Yazid Yatimi in discus throw. He won bronze medal that time.
