SEA Games 2019 News 040: PH Men's Rugby Team also Gears Up

In preparation to the 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held on November, the Philippine Rugby Football Union has lined up international tournaments for its men's and women's team.

For the men's team, they will see action at the HSBC Cathay Pacific World Series Qualifiers from April 5 to 7 in Hong Kong.

The men's team also known as the Volcanoes are grouped in Pool E together with host Hong Kong, Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This tournament will decide which teams will be promoted to the 2019/2020 HSBC World Series where the top 15 countries in the world are competing.

Aside from the mentioned tournament in April, the Volcanoes men's team is also set to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifying tournament in Incheon, South Korea in November.

The Volcanoes are to reclaim their SEA Games gold medal in men's event from the 2017 SEA Games gold medalist Malaysia. The Volcanoes won in 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.
As for the women's side, they recently participated at the 2019 Borneo Sevens where they were declared as bowl winners. (See: PH Lady Volcanoes To Compete in Sabah)
