The Philippine women's national rugby team also known as Lady Volcanoes are preparing for series of competitions before they compete at the 30th Southeast Asian Games 2019.
The lady volcanoes are set to compete in Borneo Sevens this coming March 22 to 23 at the Eagles Rugby Rugby Club in Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia.
The competition is divided into two pools. Pool A is comprised of the Japan Pearls which is Japan national champions, Hong Kong Dragons, Singapore HPD and the Lady Volcanoes (Philippines).
Nagato Blues (Japan), Southern Districts (Australia), Sabah Eagles and the Malaysian national squad are in Pool B. Hong Kong are the defending champions in the women’s competition.
The 12 players of the lady volcanoes who are consistently training for two months are Kaia Briela Padilla Baui, Leonor Casinillo Boroy, Alyana Ysabel Siongco Del Fierro, Aldee Faith Lyde Pielago Denuyo and Kaye Llanie Perez Honoras.
Also making up the team are Helena Roxanne Aguilar Indigne, Ma. Isabella Angeles Baltazar Nepumuceno, Aiumi Villarba Ono, Rassiel Adonis Sales, Maricar Villamor Samson, Angella Camille San Juan and Sylvia Selfaison Tudoc.
Aside from the mentioned competition, the lady volcanoes will also take part in the Asia Rugby Women’s Championships in Taipei on June and followed by the Trophy Series in Indonesia on August.
The Lady Volcanoes target a podium finish this 2019 SEA Games after a bronze finish at the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.
