SEA Games 2019 News 031: Women's Water Polo Just Being Added

It was a delightful moment in aquatics as it adds women's water polo event in the list of events at the 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held in the Philippines.

The event was omitted by the organizer together with other events in aquatics.

It was reported that appeals to include women's water polo were brought to the SEA Games organizers and that appeal resulted to the inclusion of the event.

A week after the notification from the organizer, teams especially from Indonesia and Singapore immediately took action to prepare for the games.

Indonesia immediately prepare the schedules and training site for the athletes but waits for the budget to start their prepration. Around 18 to 20 athletes are to be called and 80 to 90 percent of them are former campaigners in previous SEA Games and Asian Games.

Meanwhile, 2017 SEA Games silver medalist Singapore will bring new faces to the team except for three athletes namely, Gina Koh, Koh Xiao Li and Angeline Teo.

While Thailand is seriously taking the challenge to defend their SEA Games title. Last November, a water polo tourney called Princess Chulabhorn Water Polo Cup was held in Thailand and its team CAC Thailand placed second behind powerhouse Australia.

Reportedly, a total of four countries will be competing in women's water polo at the 2019 SEA Games - Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
There is no news of host Philippines to participate in the women's event but sure of participating in the men's division..
