SEA Games 2019 News 005: Swimming Events Granted an Approval by FINA to serve as Olympic qualifier

The 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila is approved by FINA to hold swimming events as a 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifier.

FINA is the international federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for administering international competition in aquatics or water sports.

This means that all participating Southeast Asian swimmers have the chance to qualify to the 2020 Olympics if Qualifying Time A and Qualifying Time B standards of each Olympic event were met.

PSI President Lani Velasco stated in response to FINA‘s decision, “We are very grateful that FINA has approved the 30th Southeast Asian Games as a qualifying meet for the Tokyo Olympics.

Olympic Gold medalist Joseph Schooling and Quah Zheng Wen of Singapore are among those expected to clinch a berth in the Olympics as well as Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên of Vietnam.
SEA Games swimming event will take place from the 2nd of December to the 6th of December.
The SEA Games is a biennial multi-sport event that typically sees 11 countries participate from the region.
Meanwhile, the final FINA calendar of approved meets is set to be released on February 28. - Fahad T.
