Women 9-Ball World Championships 2017

The 2017 Women 9-Ball World Championships was held at the County Gymnasium in Chengmai County, Hainan, China from November 8 to 11.

A total prize of $175,00 (USD) was given at the tournament and the champion received $43,000.

Leading the pack of Southeast Asia was 2017 SEA Games gold medalist Chezka Centeno and Rubilen Amit of the Philippines. Aside from the Philippines, Singapore also sent Shu Wah Hoe and J. Tan to represent the city-state in this competition.

Philippines' Centeno and Amit reached the knockout round  (top 32) as well as Hoe of Singapore.

Unfortunately, Amit (PHI) and Hoe (SGP) were dispatched by their respective opponents. Hoe was beaten by Adriana Villar of Costa Rica (5-9) while Amit was kicked out of the contention by China's Doudou Zhou, 7-9.

Luckily for Centeno, she defeated Xiazhi Liu of China, 9-7 in the round of 32 and she entered the round of 16 where she met another Chinese bet Xiaotong Zhang.

Zhang and Centeno gave a superb fight as the match ended with the score of 9-8 in favor of China's Zhang.

Despite the defeat of our Southeast Asian pool players, there's still a bright future for our SEA athletes as this sport has a great chance of inclusion at the 29th SEA Games - Manila in 2019.
