The 2017 Asian Cup and Asian Inter-Club Weightlifting Championships was held at the Yongha Weightlifting Gymnasium in Yanggu County, Gangwon Province in South Korea. The said tournaments ran from the 28th of October to the 2nd of November.The competition featured 16 bodyweight categories - 8 for males and 8 for females.Southeast Asian countries are known for this sport especially in the Olympics. Weightlifting became a source of medals for the ASEAN region.And slowly getting into the rosters of champion from Southeast Asian is the Philippines.Filipino weightlifter Elien Rose Perez won three gold medals by lifting 71 kgs. in snatch and 87 kgs. in clean and jerk to sweep of her event in the women's 53kg class.Also sharing a spotlight was Maria Dessa Santos who won six medals in the women's 58kg event. She managed to collect three silver medals in Asian Inter-club Championships and three bronze medals at the Asian Cup.Bagging three more bronze medals for the Philippines was Elreen Ando in the women's 63kg category. She placed third in all disciplines - the snatch, clean & jerk and for the overall lift.All-in-all, a total of 12 medals was captured by the Philippine team at this championships - 3 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals from three strong women. All them could be a successful Olympian after Hidilyn Diaz who won silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
