10th WKF Junior, Cadet & U21 World Championships 2017

The 10th WKF Junior, Cadet & U21 World Championships 2017 was successfully held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain from October 25 to 29. 

Among the participating karatekas in this event is our Southeast Asian young athletes from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Thailand produced the lone gold medal for the ASEAN region but Indonesia collected three medals including two silver medals. 2017 SEA Games host Malaysia also performed well by winning two bronze medals in individual and in team event.
The Philippines and Vietnam also did a good performances at this world championships but were unable to come up with medals.
The tournament closed with Japan dominating and topping the tally board with an impressive 10 gold medals.

Karate will be featured at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
The following are our Southeast Asian young karatekas who brought victory to the ASEAN community.

Cadet Kumite Female -47 kg
  • Gold - OKAZAKI AIKA (Thailand)
  • Bronze - ALIFIA UMMUL KHASANAH (Indonesia)

Cadet Kumite Male -52 kg
  • Bronze - HARI SANKAR SUREEYA SANKAR (Malaysia)

Junior Kata Male
  • Silver - IVAN FAIRUZ TAHER (Indonesia)

Junior Kumite Male -55 kg
  • Silver - WAHYU MUKTI  (Indonesia)  

Kata Team Cadet and Junior Male
  • Bronze - Team Malaysia
