A Brave Start for Vietnam at FIFA World Cup

Vietnam made its first ever appearance in the FIFA Women's World Cup at the Eden Park, Auckland on July 22 to take its its first match against 4-time FIFA World Cup champion United States.

Vietnam which is in Group E is defeated by a very strong United States, 3-0. Despite losing to reigning champion US, the Vietnamese team showed a brave performance which won the hearts of Vietnamese fans around the world.
 
Two goals were scored by Sophia Smith in the first half and another by captain Lindsey Horan in the second half to seal United States' victory.
 
Vietnam's next match is against Portugal on July 27 and Netherlands on August 1.
