Bokator is one of the sports to be featured in the upcoming 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.
As of the moment, a total of 6 countries including the host will be in contention for medals for the sport of Bokator. These countries are Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia and Cambodia.
Bokator is a martial arts form of hand-to-hand combat that was developed in Cambodia. Bokator was developed before and during the Angkorian period from the 9th to the 12th century AD.
The origins of Bokator involve a mix of Indian and Chinese martial arts, which evolved into a new fighting style during the Angkorian era.
Bokator, literally translated, means Bok, “smash” and Tao, “tiger”.

In the 32nd SEA Games, the weight categories for men are 50 kg, 55 kg, 60 kg, 65 kg and 70
kg. The women’s weight divisions include 45 kg, 50 kg, 55 kg and 60 kg. Kun Bokator is scheduled from May 4 to May 10 (maybe subject to change).
Aside from Bokator, Cambodia has decided to include two traditional sports for SEA Games in May – Ouk Chaktrang (chess) and Kun Khmer.
The three sports will be a golden opportunity for Cambodia to show
these traditional sports to foreign audiences and will also give Cambodia more medals in this biennial meet.
