#SEAGames2023 News | Indonesia Starts Selection for Triathlon

The 32nd Southeast Asian Games will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on May 2023 and endurance race is categorically one the sports to be featured. This includes triathlon and duathlon which were contested in the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam and aquathlon which will be contested for the first time.

The Indonesian Triathlon Federation has conducted the selection of athletes last December 27 to 29 at the Anti-Doping Laboratory, State University of Surabaya (UNESA), Lidah Wetan Campus. At least 35 athletes participated in the event in which 21 of them are men and the remaining 14 are women.

The selection process conducted was different to the usual triathlon competition. Before swimming was held in the lake and cycling on the road, this year it uses the arena games method in which swimming is done in a pool, cycling is done indoors in the Anti-Doping Lab lobby and running is still carried out on the road and jogging track of UNESA.

The national federation is very determine to win medals at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia as some of Indonesia's favorite sports will not be contested. They are hoping to capture the best athletes to represent Indonesia not only for the coming SEA Games but also for other competitions such as World Beach Games where Indonesia is hosting and the Asian Games in China.

In this selection conducted, the East Java contingent dominated the event as seen in the list of winners. For the men's category, first place went to Aloysius Reckyardo (Central Java) followed by Rasyif Amina Yaqin (West  Java) and Bima Perdana (East Java) respectively.
