Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines's men's basketball teams expressed their readiness at the coming 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.
In preparation for SEA Games, Malaysia and Singapore had their friendly matches at the MABA Stadium in Malaysia that started from February 27 and lasted last March 1. The three-day friendly matches were all won by Team Malaysia.
Aside from its friendly matches with the Singapore national team, some Malaysian players will see action in Filbasket or the Filipino Basketball League as foreign guest team under the team Kuala Lumpur Aseel.
The 12-team league which will commence this March 15 can help the core players of Malaysia national team in its buildup for the SEA Games this coming May.
Aside from the 5x5 basketball, the 3x3 basketball will also be featured in Vietnam's SEA Games for the second time as medal event. Part of Singapore's preparation, its 3x3 national team also had their friendly matches with the Malaysian team.
Also, Singapore is said to be the host of FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup which will happen on July 6 to July 10 this year.
Fresh from its 2023 World Cup Asian qualifier last month against
India and New Zealand, the Philippines (a.k.a. Gilas Pilipinas) is now focus on SEA Games to
protect its SEA Games 5x5 basketball crown.
Team Philippines will name its 15-man contingent for the SEA Games this May which will likely composed of professional players. Thirdy Ravena and Dwight Ramos who played in Japan pro league could possibly part of Gilas Pilipinas that will play in Vietnam.
The unavailability of collegiate/university players due to their collegiate leagues coincides the preparation and date of SEA Games is the reason why it will field its pro-rank players.
At the 2019 SEA Games, Team Philippines bagged all the four gold medals in basketball.
