The Malaysia national team tryouts for jiu-jitsu was held last January 15 to select athletes who will be fielded at the 31st Southeast Asian Games.
A number of determined athletes took part of the tryout who wants to represent team Malaysia in SEA Games which is scheduled to commence on May 12 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Jiu-jitsu is one of the martial art sports to be featured in this year's SEA Games with six gold medals at stake.
At the 2019 SEA Games in Manila, Malaysia brought home one silver medal courtesy of Cassandra Poyong in women's 55 kg class and two bronze medals care of Ai Jin Lee in women's 45 kg event and Adam Akasyah in men's 69 kg event.
With less 5 medals at this year's SEA Games, Malaysia is hoping to perform better than the last SEA Games in Manila.
Favorite to win most of the medals in this sport is the Philippines and Thailand with Vietnam which is also known for producing best athletes in martial arts.
