The 31st Southeast Asian Games will not be staged this year as host Vietnam officially postponed the games to next year 2022.
On Twitter posted by NOC Malaysia, it was said that the Vietnam Organising Committee took note of the current condition of the Southeast Asian region due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Also from circulated online news, Philippine Olympic Committee president Bambol Tolentino confirmed about the SEA Games postponement. It was said that the SEAG Federation has unanimously decided to reset it.
The concern is that in year 2022, there are big sporting events scheduled like the Commonwealth Games where some SEA Games members are competing and another thing is presidential election in the Philippines.
The 2021 SEA Games which is scheduled to commence on November 21 and will end on December 2 - will be determined by SEA Games Federation Council with a new date.
