Vietnam is the sole Southeast Asian nation who sent 4 athletes at the 2019 IWF Youth World Championships held in Las Vegas, Nevada from March 8 to 15.
Leading team Vietnam was DO Tu Tung who set a new youth world record in Snatch at 95kg in his second attempt.
He continued setting a new youth world record in the Clean and Jerk at 125kg with a total lift of 220kg, which is also a youth world record.
Do won 3 gold medals and hailed as a new youth world champion in the men's 49kg event.
Vietnam also bagged medals in the men's 61kg category by virtue of BUI Dinh Sang who won gold in snatch at 113kg and won a bronze medal with a total lift of 243kg.
The last man to compete for Vietnam is VUONG Truong Khoi. He competed in the men's 81kg category. He emerged 4th place overall and lifted a total weight of 281kg.
In the women's event, it was NGUYEN Thi Thu Trang who won three gold medals in the 45kg category.
She lifted 66 kg in the snatch and 75kg in the clean & jerk for a total of 141 kg.
Last February, Vietnamese lifters Vuong Thi Huyen and Lai Gia Thanh won the women’s 45kg and men’s 55kg respectively at the 2019 IWF World Cup which is a qualification tournament for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
