SEA Games 2019 News 032: Malaysia Picked 8 Athletes for (Ice) Speed Skating

As the summer heats up, the preparation for 2019 SEA Games heats up too but in the world of ice skating.

Malaysia already picked eight athletes to represent the country for the short track speed skating in the upcoming 30th SEA Games in the Philippines this November.

The selection was based on overall ranking positions of the recent 2019 Malaysian National Short Track Speed Skating Championships.

The eight athletes are Sean Yei Qi Jun, Mohamad Hazim Syahmi Shahrum, Khairil Ridhwan Khalil and Oh Han Yuan for the men's team while Anja Chong, Doine Tan Shu Yen, Chan Kynie and Ashley Chin for women's side.

At the recent 2017 SEA Games, Malaysia won four gold medals from which three golds were contributed by the Ice Queen of Malaysia Anja Chong. She won in the individual 500m and 1000m events and in the 3000m relay team event.

But this year they target two gold medals and to defend the men and women's relay events.

As reported, the athletes are now training abroad and will also hold a camp to train them together to ensure their cooperation as a team.

Malaysia's greatest rival would be Thailand and Singapore teams as these two countries medalled at the last SEA Games while Philippines will definitely will give a good rally as host.
