SEA Games 2019 News 029: PH Searches for New Blood of Skateboaders


Eight gold medals are at stake in skateboarding at the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held in the Philippines.

Host Philippines is targeting to sweep all the events and now gearing up for the debut of this sport.

Part of their preparations are series of regional championships which will start in Iba, Zambales on March 23 to 24 as Leg 1 (Luzon Leg).

The second leg (Visayas Leg) will be on April 6 to 7 in Cebu City, hometown of 2018 Asian Games gold medalist Margielyn Didal while the last leg (Mindanao Leg) will be in General Santos City on the 25th and 26th of May.

While the national SEA Games qualifier will be on August 24 to 25 in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Asides from Didal who will lead the women's division, the other confirmed Philippine bets for SEA Games are Jeff Gonzalez, Mak Feliciano and Christiana Means.

There are still 11 slots to be occupied for team Philippines and it will be chosen from the series of competitions mentioned above.

At the last Asian Games, Indonesia and the Philippines won medals and are expected to win most of the medals this SEA Games 2019.

Indonesia is favorite to dominate the men's division but host Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia are ready to challenge them.

For the women's division, Philippines is far better of its neighboring competitors and expected to win all the gold medals. This is based on the recent international competition results.
