🚴‍ 9th Le Tour de Filipinas 2018


Le Tour de Filipinas 2018 was participated by 78 cyclists from 16 teams from our Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and host Philippines.

Aside from them, it was also participated by cyclists from China, Korea, Iran, Eritrea,  Mongolia, Denmark, Colombia, France, Russia and Australia. 

The cycling tour has 4 legs. 
  • Leg 1 | May 20 | Quezon City to Palayan City, Nueva Ecija (Cancelled due to some road obstructions)
  • Leg 2 | May 21 | Cabanatuan City to Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya
  • Leg 3 | May 22 | Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya to Lingayen, Pangasinan
  • Leg 4 | May 23 | Lingayen, Pangasinan to Baguio City

Leg 2 and Leg 3 were being topped by cyclists from host Philippines. 

Ronald Oranza of Philippine Navy Standard Insurance team (PHI) clocked 3:48:34 to topped the second leg of the tour. He was followed by a Korean cyclist which was just behind 3 seconds. Also coming in good placement was Philippines' John Paul Morales in 4th. 

The third leg was dominated by our Southeast Asian cyclists. Philippines made a 1-2-3 finish courtesy of brothers El Joshua Carino and Daniel Ven Carino (4:28:56). In third place was Mervin Corpuz (4:30:26) and coming 4th was Malaysian Akmal Hakim Zakaria (4:30:28).

But in the last stage of the tour, it was Metkel Eyob of Eritrea who captured the top spot clocking 4:05:52. Second to him was Australia's Drew Morey with a time of 4:07:14 and not so far from him was Philippines' El Joshua Carino who timed 4:07:54.

But the overall individual classification champion of Le Tour de Filipinas 2018 was captured by El Joshua Carino of Philippines. He is the 3rd Filipino rider to win the tour crown.
Carino joined 2014 champion Mark Galedo and Baler Ravina who won in 2012, as the only local riders to win the UCI-sanctioned race in the Philippines.
Carino also emerged as Best Sprinter and Best Filipino Rider and steered his team (Philippine Navy Standard Insurance) to overall championship
 
His younger brother Daniel Ven bagged the Best Young Rider award.
Overall, it was a best performance by team Philippines.
