🏋️ World Weightlifting Championships 2017

The World Weightlifting Championships 2017 was held in Anaheim, United States from 28 November to December 5.

Bagging the first title for Southeast Asia was weightlifter from Vietnam. Kim Tuan Thach took the gold medal in the Men’s 56kg bodyweight category with a total lift of 279kg. His lift in snatch was 126kg while in clean & jerk, he lifted 153kg. 

His compatriot Le Quoc Toan Tran took the silver medal with a total lift of 270kg while Thailand's Witoon Mingmoon won the bronze medal with 267kg lift in the same event.
Thailand is the big winner  from Southeast Asia. With the absence of Indonesia in the tournament, Thailand won couple of medals including Sopita Tanasan who won gold in the women's 53kg event, Tairat Bunsuk in men's 69kg event with a silver medal, Thunya Sukcharoen in women's 48kg (silver) and Sukanya Srisurat (silver medal) in women's 58kg event . 

The Philippines also made it to the medal board courtesy of 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz by snatching bronze medal in the women's 53kg event.
