The 17th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championships was held in Hong Kong last May 1 to May 6.Philippines was the only Southeast Asian country who competed in this event.Filipino kegler Kenzo Umali took the gold medal in the boys' singles event. He also grabbed the bronze medal in the boys' doubles event with compatriot Merwin Tan.Tan and Umali were also part of team Philippines together with Ivan Malig and Louis Cantorna who won gold medal in the boys' team event. Hong Kong took the silver medal while Chinese Taipei received the bronze medal.Meanwhile, Merwin Tan snatched the gold medal in the boys' all event. Bowlers from Hong Kong and Kuwait took the silver and bronze medals respectively.Philippine's girls team contributed a bronze medal in the team event. The team was composed of Daphne Custodio, Jeika Yutero, Noelle Campos and Grace Gella.The Philippines placed second overall with three gold medals and two bronze medals behind Macau with six (3 gold- 1 silver- 2 bronze) medals.Macau, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Chinese Taipei and Saudi Arabia were among the countries who sent delegates in this bowling tourney.
