The Southeast Asian Regional Qualification Tournament concluded on Friday, May 10, with Singapore taking all the two quota places for Paris Olympics. Izaac Quek bagged the quota place for the Men's Singles while Jian Zeng got the Women's Singles Olympic quota.
Quek defeated Phakpoom of Thailand
in the Men's Singles finals, 4-2 (7-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-3,
11-5, 11-5) to secure the lone Olympic ticket for
Southeast Asia.
For the women's singles, Jian Zeng secured the Olympic quota for SEA defeating Nguyen Khanh of Vietnam in the finals, 4-1 (11-7, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10).
In the the said qualifying tournament, Philippines has shown potential and promising talents such as Kheith Cruz and John Russel Misal who reached the semifinals in their respective events and gave a hard battles to their opponents. The two were in our radar as contenders for this event.
