The Philippine Women's National Football Team also known as the Filipinas ended their FIFA Women's World Cup campaign after losing to World No. 12 Norway in their last group stage match last July 30. The match ended with six to nil in favor of the much taller Norwegians.
Despite the defeat, the Filipinas showed a brave fight against a higher ranked team. Their total performance in the World Cup has reintroduce football to the Filipinos and inspired many women in the Philippines to love and play the sport.
Many Filipinos around the world showed their support to the team by witnessing the games in the venue itself while others had their Watch Parties. They also trended in social media platforms with #LabanFilipinas.
The Filipinas' next big competition is the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China where they are bracketed in Group E along with Hong Kong, Korea and Southeast Asian rival Myanmar. The Asian Games opening ceremony is on September 23 but football competition will start on September 19, days before the formal opening.
The Filipinas who set their first historic win in World Cup has earned the hearts of many Filipinos around the world and are looking forward for their next competitions ahead.
