The diving events for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games are reduced from 8 events at the 2021 SEA Games to 4 events this coming SEA Games in Cambodia.
Cambodia is not known for having good divers which is a smart move to reduce the events for their advantage as host.
The events to be contested are the 3m springboard (men and women) and the 10m platform (men and women).
As for Malaysia who swept all the gold medals in the last SEA Games in Vietnam, they are still the favorites to dominate the diving events.
As reported, the Malaysian team will not send their elite divers and will bring their backup divers which are also capable of bringing home the gold medals. Muhammad Syafiq Puteh is said to be one of the eight divers that will represent Malaysia.
Enrique Maccartney Harold and Elisha Rania Abrial Rajagobal are among
those expected to make their SEA Games debuts this coming May.
Malaysia is aiming to win at least three gold medals.
Challenging Malaysia will be Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia who added two strong divers to their diving team. Katherina Eda Rahayu and Kaisar Hansel will strengthen the Indonesian squad.
Meanwhile, the Philippines had their selection tryout for their diving and swimming teams but there were no reports of the names who are going to represent the team in Cambodia. A stabilization committee was established to set up the selection as mandated by World Aquatics.
The Southeast Asian Games 2023 will be held from May 5 to May 17 in Cambodia.
