Philippines Hosting Cancelled, Vietnam to Host ASEAN School Games This Year


 
 
Philippines’ hosting of the 12th ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) in Dumaguete City in November of 2022 has been deferred according to Department of Education (DepEd) official. 
 
The Philippines' new secretary of education Sara Duterte, daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte, has enumerated her priorities as DepEd secretary. These are reviewing the implementation of K-to-12 program, mandatory military training (ROTC) and look into teacher's salaries (Sara Duterte enumerates priorities as next DepEd secretary | ANC). She is also targeting to implement mandatory toothbrush drills for the school year 2024-2025.
 
Meanwhile, Vietnam will host the 13th edition of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Nations) School Games in Da Nang City in August 2023.

Six sports are expected to be played and will be finalized by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) who will make a final decision about which sports will be played to ensure they are suitable for school students.
 
Vietnam hosted the 5th ASEAN School Games with nine sports and emerged as the overall champion in 2013. This is the first time Vietnam hosted the event. 

All eleven members of the ASEAN is expected to participate in this year's ASEAN School Games.
