Southeast Asia at the 2022 World Athletics U20 (Junior) Championships


Five Southeast Asian countries participated at the 2022 World Athletics U20 (Junior) Championships held in Cali, Colombia scheduled from August 1 to 6. These nations were Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
 
Our Southeast Asian athletes made an impressive results as two of our sprinters reached the men's 100m finals event.
 
Puripol Boonsoon of Thailand finished 4th in the finals clocking 10.12s while Malaysia's Muhd Azeem Fahmi in 5th place with a time of 10.14s. 
 
Meanwhile, here are the results of our SEA athletes in men's 100m
event.
 
Heats (Overall)
  • 2nd - Muhd Azeem Fahmi (MAS) 10.09s
  • 3rd - Puripol Boonsoon (THA) 10.20s
  • 30th - Thawatchai Himaiad (THA) 10.55s
  • 42nd - Mark Ren Lee (SGP) 10.69s
Semi-Finals

  • Muhd Azeem Fahmi (MAS)10.19s
Also, Thailand's Puripol Boonsoon, Thawatchai Himaiad and Malaysia's Muhd Azeem Fahmi made it to the semifinals of  men's 200m. Below are their results of the event.

  • 4th - Puripol Boonsoon (THA) 20.68
  • 9th - Muhd Azeem Fahmi (MAS) 20.83 NR U20
  • 20th - Thawatchai Himaiad (THA) 21.07 PB
Semi-Finals
  • 8th - Puripol Boonsoon (THA) 20.61
  • 15th - Muhd Azeem Fahmi (MAS) 20.97
  • 23rd - Thawatchai Himaiad (THA) 21.86

In other event, Mohamad Shah Sholihin Azshar of Malaysia finished 9th in Group B of men's triple jump. He jumped 14.76m to place 19th overall and did not advance to the finals.
 
Indonesia's Dina Aulia advanced to the semifinals after clocking 13.44s and ruling the women's 100m hurdles prelim heat 2. She now registered a new national record for Indonesia (U20) in the said event.
However in the semifinals, she clocked the same time and barely missed to enter the finals as she placed 9th in the semis.
 
Du Y Hoang of Vietnam finished 45th overall in the women's 100m event with a time of 11.95s. She did not advance to the next round.
 
Elvin Yap Zhi Xian of Malaysia clocked 13.91s (PB) in Heat 7 of men's 110m hurdles enough to advance into the semifinals. Unfortunately, his time of 14.92 in the semifinals failed him to advance in the finals. But still a good job. 
 
A total of 8 athletes from Southeast Asia competed in the 2022 Juniors Championships with Malaysia having the most number of athletes (3).
