#SEAGames2021 News 051 | Indonesia, the Philippines & Malaysia Will Compete in Finswimming

Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia will participate in the sport of finswimming at the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.

Finswimming will feature 13 events - 6 each for both genders and 1 event in the mixed relay.

Indonesia will send a strong team and is targeting three gold medals in the Hanoi biennial meet.

The Indonesian team is planning to go to Germany to carry out a try-out and will return to their homeland first before leaving for Vietnam.

Indonesia also conducted a selection tryout for SEA Games last March 2 and the results were very impressive. The tryout was held at the Aquatic Stadium Gelora Bung Karno. (For results)

At the 2011 SEA Games, Indonesia won 17 medals (7 gold, 8 silver, and 2 bronze).

Meanwhile, the Philippines which won a lone gold medal in Palembang SEA Games courtesy of Danielle Faith San, will send five finswimmers.

These are Aki Cariño, Sam Doragos, Raegan Gavino, Raine Gavino and Marjorie Manguiat.

Philippines' finswimmers only made a switch to the sport during the pandemic, as all of them are former full time swimmers. Despite being new to the sport, the team is hoping to deliver medals in Hanoi, Vietnam.

As for the newcomer in SEA Games finswimming, Malaysia will also send five athletes - three males and two female finswimmers.

Khiew Tze Yean, Saw Jin Er and Liew Ee Chern comprised the men's team while Cheng Ka Man and Leong Wan Mei will banner in the women's events.

Malaysia will also compete in the bi-fin mixed relay.

Host Vietnam is expected to dominate the sport as its finswimming team is very much ready for the SEA Games.
