#SEAGames2021 News 037 | Priority Sports & Lesser Number of Athletes For Indonesia

Indonesia is sending a lesser delegation to Vietnam biennial meet compared to the last Southeast Asian Games held in the Philippines.

The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) has decided to reduce the number of Indonesian contingents to deal with budget constraints from the government.

At the 2019 SEA Games, the red and white flag sent 841 athletes and this coming May it could only send a maximum of 500 athletes depending on the sports that Indonesia is prioritizing and by the recommendation of its national sports association.

So far, 17 sports has been identified as priority sports by Indonesia. These are badminton, weightlifting, archery, athletics, shooting, rock climbing, artistic gymnastics, cycling, swimming, rowing, karate, taekwondo, wushu and pencak silat.

Some of the mentioned sports are Indonesia's sources of medals not only for SEA Games but for the Asian Games and the Olympics.

KOI will mapped Indonesia's strength for SEA Games before filling its entry-by-name which will end on March 31.

The number of athletes are still uncertain for Indonesia but it is open on options for sports that can be independently financed by the national federation, with special parameters.

The 31st Southeast Asian Games is scheduled to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam and its neighboring provinces from May 12 to 23 with 526 events in 40 sports.
