Team Philippines topped the group with 6-0 win-loss record and now officially qualified for FIBA Asia Cup 2021 to be held in Indonesia.
Team Philippines also known as Gilas Pilipinas fielded its young dribblers averaging 22 years of age, the youngest 18, won all its games in the Clark, Pampanga bubble.
Their first assignment was against their Korean rival on June 16 which ended in a thrilling win just by 3 points, 81-78. That 3-point was shot at buzzer with just 2.9 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter.
Their second win was against Indonesia with 76-51 score. And their third and last win was against Korea, 82-77.
Despite losing twice to Philippines, Korea is qualified for FIBA Asia Cup as top 2 in the group.
Meanwhile Indonesia is also qualified as host of FIBA Asia Cup despite placing 3rd in the group stage while Thailand bid goodbye to Asia Cup.
If 3rd placers of each group will play for the remaining slots for FIBA Asia Cup and Indonesia is qualified already as host, will Thailand be the replacement for 3rd placer Indonesia? That is the big question and it is FIBA who has the final say.
FIBA Asia Cup 2021 is scheduled on August.
