The Southeast Asian Games 2021 will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam and one event that is going to be exciting is the men's volleyball.
At the 2019 SEA Games held in the Philippines, men's volleyball got people's attention as host Philippines made it to the podium after disposing 2017 SEA Games champion Thailand in the semi finals and making them assured of a medal.
While Indonesia took the gold medal at the finals against the Philippines, 2017 SEA Games bronze medalist Vietnam was eliminated for medal contention and ended 5th in the final ranking. Myanmar on the other hand maintain its fourth place finish.
With this kind of scenario, any team can sit on the podium at the forthcoming 31st SEA Games. Vietnam as host will surely try to come back for podium finish in front of home crowd. While Thailand will surely compete stronger to regain the championship medal they had in 2017.
Indonesia and the Philippines who sits number one and two in 2019 SEA Games will be seemed wary and definitely be more prepared as the two teams mentioned above can pull off their medals.
2015 SEA Games bronze medalist and three-time SEA Games champion Myanmar will try to end its medal drought after finishing 4th place consecutively in 2017 and 2019. Their thirst for medal will be the flaming attitude for them to place in the podium.
Cambodia as host of the 32nd SEA Games is another potential medalist which gets better and better every edition. Next year's event may be a little bit difficult for them but it may give them the opportunity to be better when they host SEA Games in 2023 as potential medalist.
And don't forget Singapore who took a set from Thailand at the last SEA Games in Manila and a close battle against Myanmar. A young but promising team can put a surprise in this men's team event.
It would be more exciting if Malaysia and Laos will participate at next year's SEA Games that will commence on November 21 and will close on December 2.
The 31st Southeast Asian Games will feature 40 sports including this men's indoor volleyball event.
