SEA Games 2019 News 081: Myanmar To Compete in the Sport of Arnis


Myanmar will compete in the sport of arnis in the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.

Arnis is a national sport and martial art of the Philippines which is a weapon-based fighting with sticks, knives and bladed weapons.

Arnis offers 20 gold medals at the biennial meet that will have its opening ceremony on November 30.

Arnis was already featured and a medal-sport in the recent SEA Games - 1991 and 2005 SEA Games both held in the Philippines.
 
Myanmar has already informed 40 athletes and  from them they will select players to be fielded in SEA Games 2019.

The first selection was held with eight teams from May 23 to 26 at Yangon Thaing Training Center in North Dagon, Yangon Region.

Potential players from the selection teams will compete in the final selection matches.

Also, a Filipino coach will come to teach Myanmar athletes of the sport to further enhance the technical knowledge and skills of the selected athletes.
