SEA Games 2019 News 056: Philippines to Field Youngest Table Tennis Player


The Philippines as host of the 30th Southeast Asian Games this November will field the youngest table tennis national team player.

This is in the person of Kheith Cruz. She is a 13-year old athlete that will represent the Philippines at the biennial meet after placing top-five in the national qualifiers.

Recently, she won at the 16th Uni-Oriental Cup Interscholastic Table Tennis League beating her schoolmate in the final.

She was also trained nearly a month in Chinese National Table Tennis Training Base in Hebei, China along with other four Filipino teenagers.
At the Southeast Asian Games, only one Filipino delivered a medal every SEA Games since 2009. He is Richard Gonzales. His recent feat was a bronze medal at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 in men's singles.
With new breed to be fielded in SEA Games, this mixed generations of table tennis players will bring a good fight and hope to bring another medal for the country.
