Six events in athletics are reinstated by the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games 2019.
The Asian Athletics Association (AAA) has warned that it will not permit to perform one of two mandatory sports (which is athletics) if it does not return the reduced events complained by member countries of the biennial meet.
The six events returned are the 5,000m run, the 10,000m run and the 20 kilometer walk which are to be contested in men's and women's divisions.
As a result, a total of 50 track and field events will take place at the 30th SEA Games, as the 4x100 relay and 4x400m relay mixed events will be officially included as a medal event in the tournament.
The inclusion of the mixed relay events are first in SEA Games history.
Also, participating countries may have three-entry athletes in athletic events.
Expected to dominate in the women's event are Vietnam and Thailand while in the men's events, it will be a battle among Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and host Philippines.
