The 2nd KL ITF International Junior Championship 2018 was held at the National Tennis Centre Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from May 1 to 6.
Thailand dominated the tournament capturing three titles.
Thailand's Thantub Suksumrarn defeated Malaysia's Jian Keong Takeshi Koey in the finals of the boy's singles event, 6-4 and 6-4.
Before going to the final event, Suksumrarn and Koey defeated two other Thai players in the semi finals.
Suksumrarn defeated fellow Michael Mathayomchand (6-1, 6-2) while Koey overpowered Natthayut Nithithanont, 6-4 and 6-3.
In boys' doubles event, it was the same faces from Thailand who won the event. Natthayut Nithithanont and Thantub Suksumrarn won over the tandem of Indonesia's Odeda Muhammad Arazza and Malaysia's Hamirul Shahril Mohd Adam Da in the finals, 6-1 and 6-3.
Both teams successfully beat their Taiwanese rivals in the semi finals before enrouting to the finals.
For girl's singles event, another Thai player in the name of Lunda Kumhom was emerged champion beating Indonesian Fadona Titalyana Kusumawati in the finals, 6-1, 7-6(4).
Lunda Kumhom outclassed Singapore's Charmaine Shi Yi Seah, 6-1 7-6(4) in the semifinals while Fadona Titalyana Kusumawati beat China's Zongyu Li, 7-5, 6-2.
The only event which our Southeast Asian tennis players did not capture was the girls doubles.
This event was won by China'sirls' doubles Zongyu Li and Jingyi Wang.
They defeated the tandem of Samantha Nanere of Indonesia and Singapore's Charmaine Shi Yi Seah in the finals.
Other team that reached the quarter finals was the duo of Lunda Kumhom (THA) and Suhana Sofia Mohd Adam Das but eliminated by Nanere and Seah.
The Philippines also participated at this tournament but none of its players reached the quarter finals.
