The World Taekwondo Grand Slam Championships 2018 was held at the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Center in Wuxi, China from April 20 to 22.Southeast Asian teams who participated at this tournament were Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand.
Thailand emerged as the most successful team from Southeast Asian collecting two gold medals and a lone bronze medal putting them second place overall. While Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam were medal-less in this competition.
Our Southeast Asian jins competed against the entries from other countries like Mexico, United States, Korea and Turkey competing in 8 weight categories.
China topped the medal standing with 5 gold medals while the other gold medal was won by an athlete from Turkey.On day 1 of the competition, Olympian Panipak Wongpattanakit of Thailand won the gold medal of the women's -49kg category event beating Kaiqi Liu of host China.The other gold medalist from Thailand came from Ramnarong Sawekwiharee in the men's -58kg category event.While the lone bronze medal was won by Phannapa Harnsujin in the women's -57kg.
